Local gas hike follows national trend

An increase of more than 20 cents per gallon for unleaded gasoline in less than a month hasn't been the common experience in recent months, but it is what's happened already in Great Bend in February and nationally there is already the suggestion that drivers will see $5 per gallon by Memorial Day - not $4, but $5.

Habitat for Humanity seeks weekend warriors

Habitat for Humanity of Barton County resumed construction earlier this month on their latest partner project at 1906 Hubbard. The three bedroom, two bathroom house will soon become a home for the Wilkerson family of Great Bend. Daryl and Amber Wilkerson have four children, and are helping with the construction project by putting sweat equity hours during each volunteer weekend, said Habitat President Rachel Mawhirter.

Sobbas named Rotary Clubs 2012 Distinguished Citizens

ELLINWOOD -Leon and Linda Sobba, longtime Ellinwood residents, were named the Ellinwood Rotary Club's 2012 Distinguished Citizens at the club's annual banquet. In addition, the club is celebrating its 75th anniversary, beginning on Dec. 1, 1936.

Next hearing scheduled in Longoria trial

Adam Longoria will return to Great Bend at least once more before his capital murder trial, which is scheduled to start March 26. A hearing to deal with pretrial motions has been scheduled for 9 a.m. on March 1 in Barton County District Court.
