Doors open at 1 p.m. Tickets are $2 at the door, but all other donations will be accepted. Senior contestants include Greg Hildebrand, Dakota Ellis, Dakota Zecha, Ian Sheppard, Louis Burley, Josh Prescott, Austin Morgan and David Monceaux (not pictured). The Mr. Perfect Panther contest is a Kayette-sponsored service project and this year proceeds will benefit two children in the community with medical needs.

Great Bend Fire Department will provide fire protection to four townships in Barton County for 2011, according to contracts approved by the Great Bend City Council this week.

The iron lung exhibit from the Barton County Historical Society Museum is featured this week at the Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson.
Larned State Hospital Superintendent Dr. Tom Kinlen will attend Thursday's study session with the Barton Community College Board of Trustees, set for 4 p.m. in the Seminar Room, F-30 on the lower level of the BCC Fine Arts Building. This is billed as a "linkage" meeting between the trustees and LSH. Other guests from Larned will be Holly Hertel, former director of nursing; and Julie Belt, interim director of nursing.
A Great Bend man was booked on charges that included kidnapping following an incident that occurred south of Great Bend last Friday. The alleged victim was also arrested on outstanding warrants.
Hoisington clean up week to be held
HOISINGTON - Joe Coles, consultant, was in Hoisington last Thursday discussing business etiquette and leadership skills with Hoisington High School students, Ellinwood High School students and St. John-Hudson High School students. Sixty-six students participated.
TOPEKA – The Kansas Supreme Court last week reversed Court of Appeals ruling and that evidence in a 2010 Rice County drug case was seized illegally. The high court's decision affirmed that of the original Rice County District Court decision.
Superintendent Brad Reed visited each school in the district on the first day of school this year and was impressed, he told USD 428 Board of Education members Monday.
The Suicide Prevention Task Force of Central Kansas Partnership is holding a Remembrance Ceremony in conjunction with the "Golden Belt Glow for Life" Walk and competitive 5K Run at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13, at Veterans Memorial Park in Great Bend. Coordinator Janel Rose at the Barton County Health Department said the public is invited to attend the Remembrance Ceremony that will be held at the west shelter next to the Lake.

About a month ago, rural Barton County resident Judy Demel complained to the Barton County Commission about the poor and potentially hazardous condition of the dirt roads near her property just west of the Great Bend Municipal Airport.
