Car blaze under investigation

A burning car in front of the apartments at 5210 10th St. Monday morning was suspicious in nature, Great Bend Fire Chief Mike Napolitano said. The state fire marshal is expected to investigate as soon as weather permits.

Road closings

The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) has now closed several roads in southwest Kansas at the Kansas-Oklahoma state line at the request of Oklahoma. The following roads are closed southbound at the state line, but remain open in Kansas:

GIVING BACK

Shafer Gallery hosts area high school art exhibit

The Shafer Art Gallery at Barton Community College is hosting an area high school juried art exhibit titled the "Vortex Exhibit," which is on display until the end of the month. It will culminate with an awards ceremony at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 28 in the Fine Arts Auditorium, which will also cap off Vortex Fine and Performing Arts Day.

Gunshot wound ruled accidental

A Colorado Springs, Colo., man was taken to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita after he accidentally shot himself Thursday morning while he and his dad were driving north of Hosington, Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir said.

IT KEPT ON FALLING

The majority of activity across the state of Kansas has come to a stop as the result of a widespread winter storm that has moved eastward across the state and resulted in up to 10 inches or more of snow in some areas since early Wednesday.

Injury wreck occurs

At 9:02 p.m. on Feb. 20, a 2002 Ford pickup owned by Seth E. Alexander of Garden City was westbound on U.S. highway 156 at mile marker 132 when he lost control on icy roads and crossed the center line. Alexander entered the south ditch and rolled one time coming to rest on its wheels, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol crash log.
