EduKan director reports advances in online education

Technology that monitors mouse clicks and other information is being used to combat identity fraud on the Internet, the director of EduKan said. The e-college consortium formed by six community colleges, including Barton Community College, is using Biometric Signature Identification to stop students enrolled in online college courses from having someone else take their tests.

Back to school could be a shot in the arm

School nurses in Great Bend started a two-week countdown this week as students returned to classes for the 2012-2013 school year. That's how much time parents have to get their children's immunizations up to date. Notices of what students within the district needed went out to parents by May 15, Cindy Prescot said. That gave parents 90 days, which the state requires. Now, as new students enroll, nurses are busy determining what these new students may need to be up to date, and will begin sending notices home and giving parents two weeks to comply. St. Mark Lutheran Church to host e-recycle collection

St. Mark Lutheran Church in Great Bend will accept out-dated and broken electronic items for recycling from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 30. The church is located at 21st and Jackson St. This project is being done in cooperation with the Barton County Landfill, which also accepts "e-waste."
