Fire interrupted the service Sunday at Trinity United Methodist Church. The congregation was signing "Savior, Like a Shepherd Lead Us" when the Rev. Jeff Slater heard a noise. Fundraiser gives CAC a boost

Saturday morning, Applebees parking lot began to fill at 8 a.m. when winners of a silent auction held over the past few weeks arrived to pick up their treasures. Sarah Schenek , director of the Children's Advocacy Center, said the non-profit stands to receive around $12,000, at least three times as much as they anticipated when they learned they'd been chosen by Applebees as the local charity of choice.

GBHS first-ever Community Service Day Wednesday

Nine-hundred students will be out of class and helping the Great Bend Community on Wednesday. From 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., the students and teachers will be scattered throughout Great Bend working on different projects that includes everything from painting houses, rebuilding tables, working on city, church, and school grounds, helping nonprofits and local businesses.

Randall Tousley carries a ladder in the Shafer Art Gallery, Wednesday at Barton Community College. Tousley was hanging lighting for the BCC Student Juried Exhibit. The opening reception for this exhibit will be from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, April 21. There will be refreshments and juror's talk by Fort Hays State University Art Instructor Linda Ganstrom. RSVP selling flowers for Memorial Day

This week marks the fourth-annual Senior Corps Week, an opportunity to thank Senior Corps volunteers for their service, said Donna Baugh, Volunteers in Action director. One way folks can become involved is by purchasing their Memorial Day flowers from the Retired Senior Volunteer Program this year.
