The annual Tompkins reunion, families of the nine children of the late John an Abi Tompkins of Byers, was held July 20, at the IOOF Lodge in St. John with 43 relatives attending. Mark and Doris Tompkins and Kevin and Laura Davis hosted the reunion.
The descendants of Francis and Clara Finger gathered July 12, at the Fellowship Hall at St. Mary's School in Salina. Original members remaining are Leonard Finger of Larned; Catherine Kuhlman of Trumbull, Neb., Mary Lou Wheeler of McPherson, Carolyn Urban of Salina and Francis, Jr. of Fayetteville, Ark. On Monday July 14, 2014 former students had a reunion at St. Mark Lutheran Church at 21st and Jackson. They had attended from 1937 to 1963 when the school closed. The Great Bend High School Class of 1994 will hold their 20 year reunion on July 26 at the Knights of Columbus. Tickets are $25 per person for the dinner and dance. Deadline is July 15. The upcoming event of the 19th Annual Kansas Iwo Jima Reunion and Dinner was founded by the late Walt Vincent in 1996, an Iwo Jima veteran and Purple Heart recipient.
