The upcoming event of the Walt Vincent Iwo Jima Reunion and Dinner was founded by the late Walt Vincent, a Purple Heart recipient and an Iwo Jima veteran, in 1996. Several years ago the committee began inviting other World War II veterans to the reunion. Two years ago the invitation extended to all veterans. The reunion will be Saturday, May 7, at the Arden H. The 13th Highlander Reunion and Car Show will be held on April 23, in Wichita. The car show will run from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Marriott Hotel parking lot. Admission and entry to the car show are free. The Peter A.R. Unruh and Sarah Boese Unruh Family Reunion was held on Nov. 1, at Perkins Restaurant in Great Bend. Those in attendance were Don, Brenda, Julietha, and Sarah Jones, of Great Bend; Keith Mull and Leann Simmons, of Larned; Jeanine Haynes of Salina; and Vera Spencer and Leslie Peters of Wichita.
Wheatland School will be celebrating the 50th Reunion of the school's closing in 1966. An invitation goes to teachers, staff, and their parents who attended the southern Barton County country school. The reunion will be held in Ellinwood on July 16, 2016, in conjunction with the Ellinwood After Harvest Festival.
The Great Bend High School Class of 1975 will hold a memorial service for the deceased members of their class at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5, at the Barton County Historical Society church at 85 S Hwy 281, located just south of the Arkansas River Bridge on Highway 281. Family and friends are invited to attend this memorial beginning.
All nine children of Elsena Bender and the late Hubert Bender met in Great Bend, Aug. 1, for a Bender/Brack family reunion. In 1965, a plane crash took the lives of Marvin and Thelma Brack so the Benders took in their five nieces and nephews and raised them along with their own four daughters. The family was celebrating the last 50 years that they have been together as one family. The nine children, along with spouses, children and grandchildren brought together almost 50 people for the weekend.
