Marsh Musings

This has always been my favorite time of the year. September opens dove season. We breast them out and wrap them with a little onion, jalapeño and bacon on the grill - it is one of the "rites of passage" into the fall hunting and fishing season. The deer are coming out of velvet, and the fawns are shedding their spotted coats.

Size does matter!

Those of us that delve into wildlife and sports photography always get questions about our gear. There are so many options at so many levels (do you doubt that Hubble didn't get the best eclipse images on earth-or close to it?)that it even becomes confusing to those of us that know a little bit. Going for purple at the County Fair

I hope you won't mind if I share one more fair story. After working long hours at the Barton County Fair and assisting with a couple events at the Ellis County Fair I had one more County Fair to visit. Our oldest granddaughter, Calyn, joined the Clyde Roadrunners 4-H Club which is located in Cloud County. A visit to their fair activities earlier this week turned out to be a lot of fun.

Things turn on a dime!

As most of you know, I have been smitten by this Fitbit thing that makes me walk and exercise in order to meet a goal for the day. It starts over at midnight, and never ends. I have seen the city by moonlight and early sun. A by-product of the process is some weight loss, lower blood pressure, much lower resting heart rate, and a very pompous sense of self-satisfaction and good health. Wetland Explorer

In terms of visiting our local wetlands, we are probably entering the "worst" time of year to visit Cheyenne Bottoms. Granted, "worst" is a relative term. Is there really a bad time to visit Cheyenne Bottoms? No, but after the excitement of spring migration, we have now entered our June Gloom.
