House hit by 9 mm bullet
Delete Crime Stoppers of Barton County and Great Bend is seeking information about a bullet that hit a house in Great Bend at the end of March or first half of April, Police Chief Dean Akings said. The house at 2908 17th St. was damaged sometime between March 28 and April 14. "The bullet went through the siding, wall, Sheetrock, a mattress, comforter and struck a dresser," Akings said. Pandoras by Poche’ exhibit opens Sunday
RUSSELL - The exhibit "Pandoras by Poche'" will be shown throughout the month of May at the Deines Cultural Center in Russell. The exhibit opens Sunday with an artist's reception from 2-4 p.m.
Vehicle hits bicycle
Great Bend Police were dispatched to the 1500 block of 10th St. at 8:06 p.m. Monday, after a vehicle hit a man on a bicycle. Casey Hoffman was driving west on 11th and struck Kevin Mata, who was riding a bike northbound across 11th St. from an alley. Mata was transported to Great Bend Regional Hospital with minor injuries.
Charging dog shot by officer
A Great Bend Police officer shot a dog at 1140 18th St., Monday afternoon at 4:22 p.m., after the dog charged at him. Police were summoned to that address after someone reported being chased by "a vicious pit bull" in the area. The dog's owner was cited for having a vicious dog.
Vehicle with six passengers rolls on I-70
RUSSELL - Six Russell residents were taken to the Russell County Hospital with possible injuries after a one-vehicle rollover on Interstate 70. Kansas Highway Patrol reports the accident occurred at 1 p.m. Saturday in Russell County, 0.6 miles east of the Bunker Hill exit.
Arrest made after pursuit
A 22-year-old man was arrested after a vehicular pursuit Sunday night in Great Bend. No one was injured.
Rec Commission offers Defensive Living program

BCC offers Computer Aided Drafting and Design certificate
Barton Community College has announced its new Computer Aided Drafting & Design 21-hour certificate program with classes beginning from 6-9 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 5 through July 26. Students who start coursework this summer can earn their certificate by as early as Spring 2013. College trustees to vote on renewing contracts
Contract renewals fill the agenda for the next Barton Community College Board of Trustees meeting, set for 4 p.m. Thursday in the Seminar Room, F-30 in the Fine Arts Building. Following an executive session for discussion of personnel matters, the board will vote on renewing contracts for faculty, head coaches, management staff, the vice president and deans, and the college president.
BCC offers private pilot ground school

Crime Stoppers seeks information on the theft of a 2005 Diamond T trailer. Great Bend Police Chief Dean Akings said it was stolen April 25 or 26 from behind a residence at 3010 17th in Great Bend. The navy blue trailer has one white wheel and one silver wheel. The police department has the vehicle identification number of the trailer valued at $700. Wildlife centers will offer Saturday event
The Great Migration Rally will be held from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Participants start at Quivira National Wildlife Refuge and "migrate" the Wetlands and Wildlife Scenic Byway to the Kansas Wetlands Education Center, stopping at three points and acquiring cards worth points along the route. Lunch will be served at the Dozier Winery.
Second audition session set for ‘Pirates of Penzance’

Great Bend to hold grand opening for Sports Complex
The grand opening ceremony for the Great Bend Sports Complex will be held from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the complex, located at 41 McKinley St. The varsity and junior varsity of the Great Bend High School Panthers vs. the Garden City Buffaloes will play baseball at 4 p.m., and between games there will be a Great Bend Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting and the grand opening ceremony.
