USD 428 Board of Education will meet at 7:30 a.m. on Friday at the District Education Office, 201 S. Patton Road. Items on the agenda include supplemental insurance for student/activities/athletics; approval of teacher resignation and appointments; and approval of end-of-year budget expenditures.
The Battle of Glorieta Pass will be the subject of a Civil War program at the next Barton County Historical Society meeting. The historical society will have its monthly program at 7:30 p.m. Monday, June 23.
Great Bend Police are investigating a burglary at 2204 McCormick St. that was reported Thursday. The homeowner said someone broke into his house and stole $16,000 in cash, a gold pocket watch and tools in a tool box.
Brit Spaugh Zoo will bring animals to the Great Bend Public Library for a program at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25. Everyone is welcome, but the program was planned with children up to and including 6th grade in mind, said library spokesman Jennifer King.
4-H Family Fun Night will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, at the Great Bend Recreation Center, located at 12th and Stone. Extension interns, Priscila Aguero and Patricia Lugan, along with local staff will lead 4-H activities. The activity is free and open to everyone.
Great Bend Eagles No. 646 will hold a barbecue cook-off on Saturday, June 21, with a live band in the evening. The contest will run from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and the dance with Ronnie and the Rockets will run from 7 to 11 p.m.
The City of Great Bend will show the movie "The Outsiders" at 9:15 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, in Jack Kilby Square. The movie is free and free refreshments will be provided by the city and Waters True Value.
The Barton Community College Board of Trustees will hold its annual retreat at noon Thursday, June 19, in the conference room of the Administrative Building. This meeting replaces the monthly study session and is for planning purposes. No action will be taken.
