​Church sale extended

Due to Sunday's stormy weather, the Great Bend Seventh-Day Adventist Church has extended its rummage sale. It will be open from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the church, located 1 mile west of 10th St. and Patton Road. All items are now half-price. For questions call 620-791-7314.

Refinishing Workshop planned

A few spaces remain in the Furniture or Trunk refinishing workshop said by Donna Krug, Barton County family and consumer science agent. The workshop will begin at 2 p.m. May 27, with participants bringing their project to the 4-H building north of Great Bend on Highway 281. The class continues from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 28 and 29. Participants who pre-register will be sent a list of supplies to bring to the first class. There is a $5 registration fee. Walk Kansas celebration set

The 2014 Walk Kansas program officially ended May 10th. According to Donna Krug, Barton County family and consumer science agent, the eight-week fitness challenge, has become a positive habit for many Barton County residents. Nearly 375 people participated this year. A Walk Kansas celebration is planned for 5:15 p.m. Thursday, at the Southeast shelter at Vet's Lake. Dee Krier will share a short presentation about Tai Chi with Walk KS participants. Healthy refreshments and door prizes will also be part of the celebration. The program is free and open to everyone. ​Rec Commissioners ready to set goals

Members of the Great Bend Recreation Commission's Board of Directors will work on goals for the coming fiscal year at the next board meeting, set for 4 p.m. Monday at the Carl Soden Recreation Center, 1214 Stone St. The agenda also calls for an executive session for discussion of a personnel matter.

Stafford County wheat tour scheduled Thursday

ST. JOHN - The Annual Stafford County Extension Wheat Variety Plot Tour will begin at noon Thursday with a hamburger feed, sponsored by the Kanza Co-op, at the test plot location. From St. John, travel 2.5 miles south on U.S. 281 and then one-half mile west on U.S. 50.

​Small gas spill caused by tanker/car collision

A gasoline transport truck turning east onto 10th St. from Main at 2:57 p.m. Tuesday collided with another vehicle driven that was also turning east on 10th. Great Bend Fire Department responded because the tanker was spilling gas onto the other vehicle. Great Bend Police reports the drivers were Curtis Robinson and Michelle Zamarripa.

Adventist Church announces Rummage Sale

The Great Bend Seventh-day Adventist Church will hold its annual two-day Rummage Sale from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 11, and 7 a.m. to noon on Monday, May 12. Items will be sold for half price from noon to 2 p.m. on Monday. Included in this sale are many antiques, unique collectibles, clothing, lots of curtains, glassware, kitchen items and many miscellaneous items of interest to the men.

BCC trustees to vote on bank change

The Barton Community College Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting for 4:15 p.m. Thursday in Room F-30 of the Fine Arts Building. Board action is required because Bank of America is scheduled to be acquired by First Kansas Bank on July 1. The college needs to move its Bank of America accounts to the acquisition bank. Man injured in motorcycle accident

Mark W. Wann, 58, from Gorham was injured in a motorcycle accident just before 3 p.m. Sunday in the 800 block of NW 190 Road, a mile east of Galatia. He was traveling west on a Harley-Davidson Roadking when he lost control, entering the ditch. He was thrown from the motorcycle.
