Congressman Jerry Moran will visit Barton County on Tuesday, during his annual Listening Tour. As senator-elect, Moran is traveling to communities in each of the 105 counties in Kansas and will be in Great Bend on Tuesday to visit with area residents. He will be at the Front Door Community Center, 1615 10th St., from 11 a.m. to noon, and encourages area residents to attend.

Sometime between the hours of 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Nov. 9, a shed at 457 SE 20 Ave. was burglarized. Great Bend Police Chief Dean Akings, speaking for Crime Stoppers of Barton County and Great Bend, said items stolen included a Lincoln-brand welder, Hitachi chop saw, Dewald grinder, kerosene heater, cutting torch and other shop equipment. Loss was $2,100.

Barton Community College vocal and instrumental music groups will perform their holiday concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 22, in the college's Fine Arts Auditorium for the taping of "Holiday on the Hill" by Smoky Hills Public Television.

Bison Methodist Church will hold their Annual Thanksgiving Day Dinner from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 25 at West 1st and Ash in Bison. The meal will be a traditional home-cooked dinner. UMB Relay for Life Team of Hudson has organized a Pamper Your Passion party that will take place this Saturday at the Stafford County Annex, located just east of the Stafford County Courthouse in St. John. Doors will open at 10 a.m. and the event will continue until 2 p.m. Admission is free. According to a spokesman for the event, the building will be filled with local vendors with ideas and gifts for the holidays. There will also be concessions and a demonstration of the Zumba form of exercising by dancing to Latino music.

Barton Community College's Board of Trustees is expected to hire eight new employees during the November business meeting, set for 4 p.m. Thursday in room F-30 of the Fine Arts Building. Five of the new staff members were on the October agenda, but the board was unable to take action due to lack of a quorum. None of the new hire are teachers; the list includes a security officer, customer service representatives and other staff.
