Speaker to discuss in-patient rehabilitation at CKMC
Join Alicia Westhoff from the Physical Therapy Department at Central Kansas Medical Center, to learn about a new rehabilitation program that is available for people in the community at CKMC and what needs to be done to be able to participate in the program. RSVP Holiday Appreciation Open House announced
The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program will hold its annual RSVP Holiday Appreciation Open House from 2-4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 6, at the Great Bend RSVP office, 1026 Main St. This come-and-go event is for all volunteers who have worked throughout the year.
Police receive theft reports
Great Bend Police are investigating several recent theft reports. A burglary at 1313 Cleveland St. was reported Sunday. Items taken included guns, a laptop computer and jewelry. Camp Aldrich, tuition rates on college board agenda
Barton Community College's Board of Trustees will review a request that the college upgrade its Camp Aldrich facility, when the board holds its monthly study session this week. The meeting is set for 4 p.m. Thursday in the Seminar Room, F-30 of the Fine Arts Building on campus. Two injured in Edwards County rollover accident
Two women were taken to Edwards County Hospital in Kinsley early Saturday after a rollover accident 1.2 miles north of U.S. 50 on 180th Road in Edwards County, the Kansas Highway Patrol reports. Lisa Marie Wilder, 22, was northbound in a Toyota passenger car at 12:40 a.m. when she lost control of the vehicle. Library announces children’s events
The Great Bend Public Library will show an after-school movie on Friday, and will hold a tree-trimming party on Saturday, Children's Librarian Eric Coulbourne said. Great Bend police received two more burglary reports on Monday. Contacts and jewelry were reportedly stolen from Ensueno Hair Studio, 2100 10th St. Someone reportedly broke into a garage at 416 Cedar St., stealing items. Rush County collision results in two fatalities, one injury
A double fatality accident occurred last Thursday in Rush County, when two trucks collided at and unmarked intersection on sanded roads, the Rush County Sheriff's Office confirmed Monday. Dale Rausch and Bernard Gilner were pronounced dead at the scene. Daniel Stegman was transported to Hays Medical Center in Hays by Rush County Emergency Medical Service with undetermined injuries. Cash, electronics reported stolen in Great Bend burglary
A burglary at 1521 Jefferson St. in Great Bend was reported Sunday morning. Someone allegedly broke into the residence and took numerous items, including $1,100 cash, an iPod Touch and a PlayStation.

Moran to visit Barton County Tuesday
Congressman Jerry Moran will visit Barton County on Tuesday, during his annual Listening Tour. Three former inmates praised by Governor as they graduate from BCC
Graduation days are celebrations of hard work expended and the future opportunities that have been earned. They are a chance to look back on what it took to get there, as well as to look forward to what lies ahead. And many thanks are offered to those who helped along the way.

BCC trustees set to approve contracts
The Barton Community College Board of Trustees will approve contracts for head coaches, management staff and administrative personnel when it meets at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Seminar Room, F-30 of the Fine Arts Building. There will also be an executive session for discussion of personnel.
Free fishing Saturday at Kanopolis State Park
KANOPOLIS - The public is invited to take part in a short nature hike and free fishing this Saturday at Kanopolis State Park. Meet at the Wildlife Viewing Area west of the office at 9 a.m. and follow the park naturalist on the trail. Bring a fishing pole for fishing in the ponds after the hike.
Driver leaves ER after arrest
After a one-vehicle accident at 6:26 a.m. Sunday at U.S. 56, milepost 211, the driver was arrested by the Barton County Sheriff's Office on suspicion of driving under the influence. At the jail he requested medical assistance for shoulder pain. At 9:27 a.m., a Great Bend Police Officer responded to a disturbance at the Great Bend Regional Hospital Emergency Room, and the BCSO was called to assist. Colo. family injured on I-70
Several people from Colorado Springs, Colo., were injured at 6:10 p.m. Sunday in Russell County, when a Suburban pulling a camper-trailer attempted to pass a semi-trailer on Interstate 70, 1 mile east of Bunker Hill. Kansas Highway Patrol reports the vehicle became unstable as it passed the semi, entering the median. The driver over-corrected and the vehicle entered the ditch, rolling several times. The trailer broke free and landed upright, while the Suburban landed on its roof.
Fatality reported in Pratt County
A 2-year-old boy died Monday and others were injured in a one-vehicle accident in Pratt County. Kansas Highway Patrol reports the accident occurred at 10:18 a.m.. on K-61, 1.5 miles north of Preston.
Library’s summer hours begin
The Great Bend Public Library will be closed Sunday and Monday, May 26 and 27, in observance of Memorial Day. The library will also switch to summer hours on May 28. It will be open Monday through Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Thursday 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The library will be closed Sundays through Labor Day.
Blood donors could win $1,000 gift card
WICHITA - Donors who present to give blood between May 23 and 31 in honor of Memorial Day could win one of five $1,000 American Express gift cards, the American Red Cross announced. In addition, their donations will honor those who gave their life for our country and support those in need of care. The Red Cross serves about 3,000 hospitals and transfusion centers across the country, including many Veterans Affairs medical centers.
GBHS cookbook now available
The Panther Paw Restaurant staff and management at Great Bend High School have produced a cookbook containing recipes of dishes served throughout the school year.

Defensive driving class can lower premiums
The Great Bend Recreation Commission, Commission on Aging and Barton County Farm Bureau will host a defensive driving course next week at the Great Bend Activity Center, 2715 18th St. Classes run from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, May 20, and Tuesday, May 21.
Greyhounds are topic of free program
History buff Joe Boley will give a program on greyhound racing at 1 p.m. Friday at the Great Bend Senior Center, 2005 Kansas Ave. Boley's free program explains how Great Bend is part of greyhound racing history.
Thieves steal large mower
A riding lawn mower stolen from Lang Diesel Inc. in rural Ellinwood was too heavy for two people to push up onto a trailer, Great Bend Police Chief Dean Akings said. Akings, speaking for Crime Stoppers, said the mower was stolen from 15 SE 90 Ave. sometime between 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, and 8 a.m. on Friday.
