BCC presents holiday concert, also to be aired on SHPTV
Barton Community College vocal and instrumental music groups will perform their holiday concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 22, in the college's Fine Arts Auditorium for the taping of "Holiday on the Hill" by Smoky Hills Public Television. Bison Methodist Church Annual Thanksgiving Dinner
Bison Methodist Church will hold their Annual Thanksgiving Day Dinner from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 25 at West 1st and Ash in Bison. The meal will be a traditional home-cooked dinner. Rollover victim's condition critical
The rural Russell man involved in a rollover accident on Tuesday was listed in critical condition, a spokesman for Via Christi Medical Center's St. Francis Hospital said Wednesday. Robert Yarmer, 52, was pinned inside his truck after it rolled in the 1300 block of NW 190 Road. Drivers decline treatment after two-car collision
An ambulance was summoned after two cars collided Wednesday morning on U.S. 281 at NE 20 Road, but both drivers refused medical treatment at the scene, the Barton County Sheriff's Office reports. Holiday Home Touhr
Holiday Home Tour 2010, "Dressed for the Season", will be sponsored by the Barton County Fair Friends from 1 to 5 p.m. on Dec. 5. The afternoon tour will include five Great Bend houses. Tickets are available for $10 each and are available from the Barton County Fair Friends, Barton County Fair Board members, Community Bank, Credit Union, the Great Bend Chamber of Commerce and online at bartoncountyfair.com. Proceeds will benefit the Barton County Fair.

Defensive driving class can lower premiums
The Great Bend Recreation Commission, Commission on Aging and Barton County Farm Bureau will host a defensive driving course next week at the Great Bend Activity Center, 2715 18th St. Classes run from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, May 20, and Tuesday, May 21.

Thieves steal large mower
A riding lawn mower stolen from Lang Diesel Inc. in rural Ellinwood was too heavy for two people to push up onto a trailer, Great Bend Police Chief Dean Akings said. Akings, speaking for Crime Stoppers, said the mower was stolen from 15 SE 90 Ave. sometime between 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, and 8 a.m. on Friday.
No Parkinson’s Support Group meeting this month
The Parkinson's Support Group will not have a meeting this month. Sponsors of this new group have decided to meet every other month, so the next meeting will be June 25. The group plans to meet on the fourth Tuesday of even-numbered months (February, April, June, August, October and December).
Suspicious fire destroys trailer
PAWNEE ROCK - An abandoned mobile home in Pawnee Rock was destroyed by fire Monday, Sheriff Brian Bellendir said. The fire at 128 Rock St. was reported around 11:15 a.m. Great Bend Fire Department was called to assist the Pawnee Rock Fire Department, GBFD Chief Mike Napolitano said when they arrived the house was fully engulfed in flames. "The fire is suspicious in nature and the Kansas State Fire Marshal's Office was called," Bellendir said. ...
Library announces teen movie, free computer class
Great Bend Public Library will show "Annie" at the next Teen Movie Monday, 4 p.m. on May 20. The free movie is open to all students in grades 7-12. The library will have another free computer class at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21. The class will explain Goodreads, the largest world's largest website for readers and book recommendations. Rape reported in county
The Barton County Sheriff's Office is investigating a rape report. On Friday morning, a woman came to St. Rose Urgent Care and said she had been raped two days earlier. She said a man in a vehicle asked for directions then attacked her on a dirt road near the college (in the 100 block of SE 20 Ave. and NE 10 Road).

A Great Bend man was allegedly battered by four other people, Saturday night or early Sunday at the Kwik Shop at 24th and Main.
