Three injured after driver swerves for deer

A Great Bend man and two children were taken to Great Bend Regional Hospital on Tuesday after a one-vehicle accident in the 300 block of NE 10 Ave. The Barton County Sheriff's Office reports Ricky Jo Staab, 42, was driving a Mazda 929 and swerved to miss a deer around 8:20 a.m. The car went out of control and struck a utility pole.

Yarmer to present history program: Tramps in late 1800s

Local history buff Robert Yarmer will speak at 1 p.m. Friday at the Great Bend Senior Center, 2005 Kansas Ave. His free informative program, "Tramps in the Late 1800s," is sponsored by the Recreation Commission. Toward the end of the 19th Century tramps came in with the railroads and provided challenges for each community, Yarmer says.

Driver arrested; passenger flees

Great Bend Police were looking for a known individual after he reportedly battered someone at Walmart, around 10:30 p.m. Saturday. At 11:11 p.m., the reporting party called again, saying the suspect was at a residence in the 3400 block of 18th St.

Driver left after hitting male who was mowing

A vehicle driven by Tabatha L. Bomgardner of Great Bend was westbound on 12th St. turning north onto Harrison at 6:40 p.m. Friday and reportedly struck a lawn mower and individual who was mowing, and then left the area. The pedestrian received minor injuries but refused treatment. Bomgardner was later located and booked into the Barton County Jail for failure to give information and render aid at an accident involving personal injuries. She was released after posting a $500 surety bond.

Rec Commission summer enrollment open

The Great Bend Recreation Commission is accepting enrollment for programs that will begin this month and continue through July. Summer activities will be offered at the Recreation Center; Activity Center; Lincoln, Jefferson, Eisenhower and Park schools; Veterans Park and other locations throughout Great Bend.
