Correction: Rosewood Relay garage/bake sale is next week

There was an error in Thursday's article listing upcoming Barton County Relay for Life fundraisers. The Rosewood Gallery Heartstrong Team will hold a garage/bake sale on April 27, not this Friday as listed. The sale will start at 8 a.m. and will take place under the awning at the 1607 Main Street location.

​Clifton teens injured when Suburban slides off I-70

Eight people were injured Wednesday when two vehicles collided in Russell County. Kansas Highway Patrol reports the driver of a Chevrolet Suburban carrying students from Clifton-Clyde High School lost control on the hail-covered road at 2:45 p.m. on Interstate 70, five miles east of Russell. Due to inclement weather rolling in, organizers of the Walk A Mile In Her Shoes event have rescheduled it from this week to until NEXT Thursday, April 25 from 6-8 p.m. in the Barton County courthouse square. The walk, during which men wear red stiletto-healed shoes, is a fundraiser for the Family Crisis Center.

A McPherson man died Tuesday when the tanker truck he was driving went off U.S. 56 in Rice County and caught on fire. The highway was closed for several hours.

Free tree program Wednesday

"Trees for Great Bend" is the topic of a free Stop 'N Learn program set for noon Wednesday at the Great Bend Activity Center, 2715 18th St. District Forester Jim Strine with the Kansas Forest Service will talk about what tree species are adapted to the Great Bend area. There will also be time for questions. The program is sponsored by the Great Bend Recreation Commission.

City wide 6th grade banc concert

The annual City Wide 6th grade band concert will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday at the Great Bend High School Gym. Participating elementary schools are Eisenhower, Jefferson, Lincoln, Park, Riley, Central Kansas Christian Academy and Holy Family School. The public is invited to attend.

RSVP pillow cleaning at new location

Kraft Pillow Service will be in Great Bend from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, in the parking lot of the RSVP office, 1025 Main. The location for this annual fundraiser for the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program has changed. Crime Stoppers seeks info on contruction site theft

A torch cart with an oxygen bottle and an acetylene bottle were stolen sometime between 8 p.m. on April 6 and 9 a.m. on April 9, from a construction site at 5520 10th St. in Great Bend. Police Chief Dean Akings said loss was $700. Anyone with information about this crime or any other crimes is asked to call Crime Stoppers, 792-1300 or 888-305-1300.

Burglars take guns, TVs

Great Bend Police received two burglary reports on Monday. Unknown persons entered the residence at 2328 Franklin St. and took three guns, among other items. Two televisions were reported stolen from the residence at 2209 29th St. Loss was $1,200.

​Lottery tickets reported stolen

A full pack of lottery tickets was reported stolen Monday afternoon from Ampride Convenience Store, 2302 10th St. Later in the afternoon, a woman tried to cash one of the stolen tickets. A Great Bend Police officer did not make contact with the woman, but the ticket was booked into evidence.

Thieves steal large mower

A riding lawn mower stolen from Lang Diesel Inc. in rural Ellinwood was too heavy for two people to push up onto a trailer, Great Bend Police Chief Dean Akings said. Akings, speaking for Crime Stoppers, said the mower was stolen from 15 SE 90 Ave. sometime between 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, and 8 a.m. on Friday.

​No Parkinson’s Support Group meeting this month

The Parkinson's Support Group will not have a meeting this month. Sponsors of this new group have decided to meet every other month, so the next meeting will be June 25. The group plans to meet on the fourth Tuesday of even-numbered months (February, April, June, August, October and December).

​Suspicious fire destroys trailer

PAWNEE ROCK - An abandoned mobile home in Pawnee Rock was destroyed by fire Monday, Sheriff Brian Bellendir said. The fire at 128 Rock St. was reported around 11:15 a.m. Great Bend Fire Department was called to assist the Pawnee Rock Fire Department, GBFD Chief Mike Napolitano said when they arrived the house was fully engulfed in flames. ​Library announces teen movie, free computer class

Great Bend Public Library will show "Annie" at the next Teen Movie Monday, 4 p.m. on May 20. The free movie is open to all students in grades 7-12. The library will have another free computer class at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21. The class will explain Goodreads, the largest world's largest website for readers and book recommendations. Rape reported in county

The Barton County Sheriff's Office is investigating a rape report. On Friday morning, a woman came to St. Rose Urgent Care and said she had been raped two days earlier. She said a man in a vehicle asked for directions then attacked her on a dirt road near the college (in the 100 block of SE 20 Ave. and NE 10 Road).
