Crime Stoppers seeks burglary tips
Crime Stoppers of Barton County and Great Bend is seeking information on a burglary that occurred sometime between 2:50 p.m. on Nov. 21 and 11:30 a.m. on Nov. 22 at Ensueno Hair Studio, 2100 10th St. in Great Bend. Boley to speak on ‘Kansas Quackers’
The public is invited to come learn about some of the early doctors in Kansas during a program at 1 p.m. Monday at the Great Bend Senior Center, 2005 Kansas Ave. Local history buff Joe Boley will present an informative program titled "Kansas Quackers," where he will talk especially about Dr. John Brinkly (1885-1942), the infamous "Goat Gland Docotor." This program is sponsored by the Great Bend Recreation Commission.
Chamber Coffee
This weeks Chamber of Commerce Coffee will be hosted by Southwest Kansas Area Agency on Aging, 1025 Main Street, at 9:30 a.m., Thursday. Ambassador in charge will be Kala Steffan with greeters Ron Koelsch and Jim Vopat. Coffee, doughnuts and door prizes will be available.

Veterans Service Representative visit
A Veterans Service Representative from the Kansas Commission on Veterans' Affairs will be at the Great Bend Kansasworks center, 1025 Main Street, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday to assist veterans and their families in applying for VA benefits. Two youths were taken to Russell Regional Hospital after two vehicles collided on Interstate 70 in Russell County. Barton County Progressives announce first meeting
The first meeting of a new group, the Barton County Progressives, will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Burnside Room of the Great Bend Recreation Center, 1214 Stone St. Organized by Christina Stein and Marty Keenan, this meeting's speaker will be the Rev. Seth Svaty, a pastor from Sterling and brother of Kansas Secretary of Agriculture Josh Svaty. Afterward there will be a 20-minute talk and discussion.

Crime Stoppers of Barton County and Great Bend seeks information on a burglary at 1313 Cleveland St., Police Chief Dean Akings said. The residence was burglarized sometime between 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 24 and 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 28. Taken were jewelry, guns, a flat-screen television, two laptop computers, a Kruggrand (one-ounce gold coin), an iPod and an autographed Chiefs football. Loss was more than $19,600. Senior Center open house to follow Friendship Meals Christmas dinner
The Friendship Meals Christmas dinner will be served at noon Thursday at the Great Bend Senior Center, 2005 Kansas Ave. The menu includes ham and sweet potatoes and the trimmings. The Parkinson's Support Group will not have a meeting this month. Sponsors of this new group have decided to meet every other month, so the next meeting will be June 25. The group plans to meet on the fourth Tuesday of even-numbered months (February, April, June, August, October and December).
Suspicious fire destroys trailer
PAWNEE ROCK - An abandoned mobile home in Pawnee Rock was destroyed by fire Monday, Sheriff Brian Bellendir said. The fire at 128 Rock St. was reported around 11:15 a.m. Great Bend Fire Department was called to assist the Pawnee Rock Fire Department, GBFD Chief Mike Napolitano said when they arrived the house was fully engulfed in flames. Library announces teen movie, free computer class
Great Bend Public Library will show "Annie" at the next Teen Movie Monday, 4 p.m. on May 20. The free movie is open to all students in grades 7-12. The library will have another free computer class at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21. The class will explain Goodreads, the largest world's largest website for readers and book recommendations. Rape reported in county
The Barton County Sheriff's Office is investigating a rape report. On Friday morning, a woman came to St. Rose Urgent Care and said she had been raped two days earlier. She said a man in a vehicle asked for directions then attacked her on a dirt road near the college (in the 100 block of SE 20 Ave. and NE 10 Road).
