Wild Goose Chase 5K/3K fun run to be held Saturday at KWEC

Late registration is still available for the second annual Wild Goose Chase 5K/3K Fun Run, 9 a.m. Saturday at Cheyenne Bottoms. Registration and check in will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the Kansas Wetlands Education Center, northeast of Great Bend.

Smoke on I-70 causes collisions

Smoke from a large grass fire burning north of Interstate 70 on Monday caused a chain reaction accident involving five vehicles, Kansas Highway Patrol reports.

Historian looks at dining on the Santa Fe Trail

Kansas historian Leo Oliva will present the program, "What Did They Eat on the Santa Fe Trail?" when the Barton County Historical Society hosts a joint meeting with the Quivira Chapter of the Santa Fe Trail Association next week. The meeting will start at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 28, in the Ray Schulz Research Library at the Barton County Historical Society Museum, located just south of the Arkansas River Bridge on U.S. 281 (Main Street) in Great Bend.

Kadin White fundraiser

A dinner and raffle fundraiser for Kadin White medical expenses will be held at 6 p.m. on May 17 at the Ellinwood American Legion. Free will donations will be taken for the dinner. USD 428 Board of Education meeting

USD 428 Board of Education will meet at noon on Thursday at Park Elementary School, 1801 Williams. Items on the agenda include prgram changes at Great Bend Middle School; approval of administrator retirement and licensed teacher resignatioins; and supplement salary committee recommendations. Park Elementary School Principal Phil Heeke and other staff members will share information regarding the academic programs and the school improvement efforts at Park.

Burglary in progress thwarted Monday morning

Barton County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested a Great Bend man Monday after a burglary in progress was report at 9:18 in the 200 block of Bermuda Drive, just southwest of Great Bend. Sheriff Brian Bellendir said the resident at that location advised that a person was breaking in and officers were needed.

Pave the parking lot fundraiser planned

Great Bend Knights of Columbus is selling tickets to a chicken fried chicken dinner to raise money for repaving the Columbus Club parking lot. The meal will be served from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday, April 27, at the K of C Hall, 723 Main.

God, bikes & blues featured at rally

MACKSVILLE - The Fifth Annual Macksville Bikes & Blues Rally will be held May 3-4 at City Park in Macksville. The event starts at noon Saturday and continues until noon the following day. Food vendors will be available for lunch and supper, and camping in the park is free, according to Macksville residents Don and Rhea Overbey with Oberbey Ministries.

Members of Rosewood Miracle Workers, a Kiwanis Aktion Club at Rosewood Services, will be selling peanuts from 10 a.m. to about 2 p.m. on Friday, April 25.
