LORRAINE -- A Lorraine man was injured Saturday in a one vehicle accident in Ellsworth County. Kansas Highway Patrol reports the accident happened shortly before 8 p.m. at Ave. V and 10th Road, just south of the city of Lorraine. Christopher Scott Chamberlain, 26, was northbound on 10th Road, attempting to turn left or west onto Ave. V. Chamberlain said the rear wheels of the Chevy S-10 pickup he was driving locked up, sliding him into the ditch.
The jury trial for LaVeta D. Miller that was scheduled to start this month has been rescheduled for Aug. 18-22 in Barton County District Court. The trial had been scheduled for June 23-27, but the prosecution requested the new date because a witness was unavailable.
Robin Lee Branson, serving two life sentences for 1982 murders committed during liquor store robberies in Great Bend, has been denied parole. Branson was eligible for a hearing before the Kansas Prisoner Review Board in May, and public comments were accepted in April.

The Great Bend Recreation Commission wants to help dads start off the summer with a golf outing with their kids. GBRC's Golf Outing with Dad event is for children ages 8-16 years of age accompanied by an adult. The outing will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 1, at the StoneRidge Golf Course.
Great Bend's Wetlands aquatic center is open daily, but Family Swim Nights do not start until Tuesday, June 3. This popular attraction is a great way to get the family in to swim after work hours and get a discounted rate, City Parks Director Terry Hoff said. Admission on Family Swim Nights is $2 per person and this takes place every Tuesday and Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.
