Crime Stoppers asks for tips on Hoisington burglary
Sometime between 8 p.m. on April 15 and 8 a.m. on April 18, a burglary occurred at Boxberger Automotive, located at 167 West First St. in Hoisington. Total loss, including damage to building and cash stolen, was $2,100. Anyone who has information about this crime or any other crime is asked to call 792-1300 or 888-305-1300 to leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers of Barton County.
Bikers Against Child Abuse to ride with CASA
The Kansas Chapter of Bikers Against Child Abuse will come to Great Bend on Saturday for their annual awareness ride. An information session for parents interested in a tuition-free virtual public school through Kansas Connections Academy will be held from 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday at Perkins Family Restaurant, 2920 10th St. in Great Bend. Sponsors said Kansas Connections Academy is a state-of-the-art alternative to the traditional brick-and-mortar classroom. It serves students statewide in grade K-12. Zoo changes Earth Day event
Great Bend-Brit Spaugh Zoo is still planning an Earth Day celebration on Friday, but it will not be showing a movie as announced earlier, Zoo Director Scott Gregory said. Burglaries reported Sunday
Great Bend Police received several reports Sunday of thefts from homes and vehicles. Someone entered the residence at 2535 Forest Ave. and took several items. A Honda CRX at 1101 Kansas Ave. was broken into and stereo equipment was taken. Someone also broke the window on a 2001 Kia at 4820 10th St. and took stereo equipment. Woman treated for minor injuries after collision
The Great Bend Police Department reports Charles Rupp was driving north on Patton Road at 4:43 p.m. Saturday and his vehicle struck a vehicle driven by Jasmine Velasco, who was westbound on 10th St. turning south onto Patton. Velasco was transported to Great Bend Regional Hospital, where she was treated for injuries and released.
SDA students working for Broken Arrow camp
The youth of the Great Bend Seventh-day Adventist School and Church are working to earn money to go to Broken Arrow Summer Camp. Students are available for jobs such as lawn, cleaning, cleaning flower beds and minor painting for $5 per hour. The Great Bend Middle School Band Department will be having their spring band concerts on Thursday at the Great Bend Middle School gym. The 7th Grade Band the GBMS Jazz Ensemble concert will begin at 6:45 p.m. The 8th Grade Band and the GBMS Jazz Ensemble concert will begin at 8:15 p.m. The concerts are free and open to the public. The bands are directed by Kurtis Koch and assisted by Mark DeWald.
