Two injured in Stafford County accident

Two people were taken to Via Chriti Medical Center's St. Francis Hospital in Wichita on Friday after two vehicles collided on U.S. 50 at the U.S. 281 junction in Stafford County, 2.5 miles south of St. John. Heartland Cancer Center Support Group to meet Tuesday

Huelskamp announces Kansas schedule

Items, animals found on county roads

Area law enforcement officers routinely receive reports of animals that have strayed into county roads, or of objects that are impeding traffic. City Youth Academy continues Friday

If you see local youths being hauled around on Friday in police cars or in the back of ambulances, it is not because they are in trouble with the law or injured in an accident. Sen. Jerry Moran cancels Stafford visit

STAFFORD - U.S. Senator Jerry Moran (Rep-KS) has canceled a planned trip to Stafford Friday. The recess was cancelled and the Senate was called back in session so he will be in Washington, D.C. However, they do plan on rescheduling in Stafford although a time is not yet set.

Thieves steal large mower

A riding lawn mower stolen from Lang Diesel Inc. in rural Ellinwood was too heavy for two people to push up onto a trailer, Great Bend Police Chief Dean Akings said. Akings, speaking for Crime Stoppers, said the mower was stolen from 15 SE 90 Ave. sometime between 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, and 8 a.m. on Friday.

The Parkinson's Support Group will not have a meeting this month. Sponsors of this new group have decided to meet every other month, so the next meeting will be June 25. The group plans to meet on the fourth Tuesday of even-numbered months (February, April, June, August, October and December).

​Suspicious fire destroys trailer

PAWNEE ROCK - An abandoned mobile home in Pawnee Rock was destroyed by fire Monday, Sheriff Brian Bellendir said. The fire at 128 Rock St. was reported around 11:15 a.m. Great Bend Fire Department was called to assist the Pawnee Rock Fire Department, GBFD Chief Mike Napolitano said when they arrived the house was fully engulfed in flames. ​Library announces teen movie, free computer class

Great Bend Public Library will show "Annie" at the next Teen Movie Monday, 4 p.m. on May 20. The free movie is open to all students in grades 7-12. The library will have another free computer class at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21. The class will explain Goodreads, the largest world's largest website for readers and book recommendations. Rape reported in county

The Barton County Sheriff's Office is investigating a rape report. On Friday morning, a woman came to St. Rose Urgent Care and said she had been raped two days earlier. She said a man in a vehicle asked for directions then attacked her on a dirt road near the college (in the 100 block of SE 20 Ave. and NE 10 Road).
