Senior Center to hold monthly potluck Tuesday
Great Bend Senior Center, 2005 Kansas Ave., will serve pizza at its monthly potluck dinner, which starts at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Those planning to attend should call Rosy at the center, 792-3906, and let her know by Tuesday morning. There is a small fee for the pizza. Bring a covered dish and your own table service.

Crime Stoppers seeks info on NCRA burglary
A burglary that occurred at NCRA in Great Bend sometime between 3 p.m. on May 27 and 6:30 p.m. on June 3 resulted in more than $2,400 in property loss and damage. Aggravated assault outside gun store reported
Great Bend Police are investigating a reported aggravated assault that allegedly occurred at 1:15 p.m. Monday, outside J&L Coins & Jewelry, 1203 Main. After an incident in which one or more people attempting to sell a gun were told to leave, a 19-year-old male returned, holding a shotgun as he stood outside the business, wanting the business owner to come out. At last report no arrest had been made.
Meth found after driver flees from vehicle
A Barton County Sheriff's Officer was attempting to stop a vehicle on South U.S. 281 at SE 20 Road at 12:33 p.m. Saturday. A known person ran from the vehicle before being stopped, but officers weren't sure whether he was the driver. While checking in the vehicle for a registered owner, the officer found suspected methamphetamine and property that may have been stolen.

Great Bend Police Chief Dean Akings reports there have been several vehicular burglaries in recent days. In one recent case, several cameras, and iPod and a Garmin GPS were stolen from a vehicle parked in front of 2913 Quivira St., sometime between 11 p.m. on May 25 and 9 a.m. on May 26. Yarmer to present history program: Tramps in late 1800s
Local history buff Robert Yarmer will speak at 1 p.m. Friday at the Great Bend Senior Center, 2005 Kansas Ave. His free informative program, "Tramps in the Late 1800s," is sponsored by the Recreation Commission. The Great Bend Recreation Commission will host "Fall Prevention" at 1 p.m. Friday at the Senior Center, 2005 Kansas Ave. In this free program, Rick Schaffer from the South West Kansas Area Agency on Aging will discuss the five building blocks for preventing or reducing falls in the home and around town.
Program offered on pool, pond care
"Pond Care 101" will be presented 5:30-7 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, at the Great Bend Recreation Center, 1214 Stone St. This free presentation by Shawna Beran includes tips on maintaining a pool or backyard pond. Garret Fitzpatrick, program director for the Great Bend Recreation Commission, said Beran will cover topics such as water care, plants, fish and diseases. There will also be time for questions.

Man dies after motorcycle hits deer
A 38-year-old Ellinwood man died Monday night after the motorcycle he was driving hit at deer on U.S. 56. Daniel J. Otipoby was transported to Great Bend Regional Hospital. BCC trustees say no to guns on campus
The Barton Community College Board of Trustees will review a plan to opt out of new Kansas law that allows conceal-carry weapons on campus. The board will meet at 4 p.m. Thursday in the Seminar Room, F-30 of the Fine Arts Building, for its monthly study session. The board will vote at its next business meeting on whether to adopt the resolution to opt out of the new law for four years.

Recreation Commission board looks at budget time line
