Chamber Coffee
This week's Chamber of Commerce Coffee will be hosted by Image Total Fitness, 1209 Main, at 9:30 a.m., Thursday. Ambassador in charge will be Scott Donovan with greeters Jim Vopat and Shawn Panzer. Coffee, doughnuts and door prizes will be available.
Senior Center announces May potluck
The Senior Center will serve Mexican food for its monthly potluck dinner, set for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Participants should bring a covered dish and their own table service. There is a fee for the Mexican food, and those planning to attend should call the Senior Center, 792-3906, and let them know.
Water safety instruction training course offered
The American Red Cross and Great Bend Recreation Commission are offering a Water Safety Instructor Training course.
Panther Bands Spring Concert recognize Seniors, Parents accomplishments
Panther Band members will present their Spring Concert at 7 p.m. on Monday in the GBHS Gym. The band seniors and their parents will be recognized, as well as all of the band student's achievements during the year.
Library to show free movies
Great Bend Public Library, 1409 Williams, will show free movies this week, and will serve free popcorn. The monthly After School Movie will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday. Barton Community College has announced enrollment times for its summer 2011 outreach courses. The college's summer bulletin of classes lists all outreach courses and workshops. Bulletins are available at area libraries and high schools. Enrollment for outreach classes in Russell is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, at Russell High School. Barton Community College will offer a Certified Medication Aide Course from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, May 7 through June 11. Clinicals will take place at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation. Classroom sessions will be at KansasWorks, 1025 Main. Participants must be Certified Nurse Aides to enroll. Country Plus band playing to relight the Eagle
The Fraternal Order of Eagles, 1024 Main, will have a dance from 7-11 p.m. Saturday, with the band Country Plus. This event is a fundraiser for the ongoing effort to restore and re-light the neon "eagle" signs outside the building. Admission is $3 per person or $5 per couple.
Area-wide choir to sing for National Day of Prayer
Surrendered Family Ministries is sponsoring a free program Thursday in observance of the National Day of Prayer. The public is invited to the event, which starts at 7 p.m. at the Crest Theater, 1905 Lakin Ave. An interdenominational, area-wide choir has been practicing and will lead the singing. The speaker will be Joseph Ametepe with Yesuli International Ministries. A sign-language interpreter will be available.

Man battered at convenience store made multiple calls to police
A Great Bend man was allegedly battered by four other people, Saturday night or early Sunday at the Kwik Shop at 24th and Main. GBMS band concert
The Great Bend Middle School Band Department will be having their spring band concerts on Thursday at the Great Bend Middle School gym. The 7th Grade Band the GBMS Jazz Ensemble concert will begin at 6:45 p.m. The 8th Grade Band and the GBMS Jazz Ensemble concert will begin at 8:15 p.m. The concerts are free and open to the public.
