BCC offers Certified Medication Aide course

Barton Community College will offer a Certified Medication Aide Course from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, May 7 through June 11. Barton schedules summer outreach courses in Russell

Barton Community College has announced enrollment times for its summer 2011 outreach courses. The college's summer bulletin of classes lists all outreach courses and workshops. An orange and gray Trek bicycle was stolen from Golden Belt Bicycle Company, 1111 Main, on March 18. Great Bend Police Chief Dean Akings reports a man asked to test drive the bike and never returned. There will be a Drivers Ed parent meeting in the Commons area of the high school on Wednesday Students interested in taking driver education must be age 14 by June 1. Last names starting A-M will meet from 4 to 5 p.m. Last names N-Z will meet from 5 to 6 p.m. Enrollment will take place after the meeting, enrollment forms will not be accepted without payment. Tanner Hlavaty Memorial Scholarship Benefit Dinner announced

Arts Center announces tag sale

A tag sale at the Barton County Arts Center, 1401 Main, Great Bend, has been rescheduled. Executive Director Karen Neuforth said the said will be held Saturday, April 9, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Items including ceramics, paintings, frames and LPs will be on sale, with proceeds benefiting the BCAC. Beekeeper to give Stop ‘N Learn program

Thieves steal large mower

A riding lawn mower stolen from Lang Diesel Inc. in rural Ellinwood was too heavy for two people to push up onto a trailer, Great Bend Police Chief Dean Akings said. Akings, speaking for Crime Stoppers, said the mower was stolen from 15 SE 90 Ave. sometime between 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, and 8 a.m. on Friday.

The Parkinson's Support Group will not have a meeting this month. Sponsors of this new group have decided to meet every other month, so the next meeting will be June 25. The group plans to meet on the fourth Tuesday of even-numbered months (February, April, June, August, October and December).

​Suspicious fire destroys trailer

PAWNEE ROCK - An abandoned mobile home in Pawnee Rock was destroyed by fire Monday, Sheriff Brian Bellendir said. The fire at 128 Rock St. was reported around 11:15 a.m. Great Bend Fire Department was called to assist the Pawnee Rock Fire Department, GBFD Chief Mike Napolitano said when they arrived the house was fully engulfed in flames. Great Bend Public Library will show "Annie" at the next Teen Movie Monday, 4 p.m. on May 20. The free movie is open to all students in grades 7-12. The library will have another free computer class at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21. The class will explain Goodreads, the largest world's largest website for readers and book recommendations. Rape reported in county

The Barton County Sheriff's Office is investigating a rape report. On Friday morning, a woman came to St. Rose Urgent Care and said she had been raped two days earlier. She said a man in a vehicle asked for directions then attacked her on a dirt road near the college (in the 100 block of SE 20 Ave. and NE 10 Road).
