Russell man injured in motorcycle pursuit
A 43-year-old Russell man was injured after wrecking a motorcycle while fleeing police at 2 a.m. Saturday. Jeffrey Carl Searles was taken to a hospital in Wichita. A Via Christi Health spokesman said he remained in critical condition Saturday afternoon. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol online crash logs, Searles passed the Russell Police Department at a high rate of speed while driving a 2007 Harley-Davidson motorcycle. The Great Bend Public Library is observing Black History Month by featuring works by African American artists in its Fine Arts Room. Works by Thelma Russi, Billie Broils, Danny Nobles, Mike Clark Jr., Sharmara Shellman and Alonzo Snipes are on display.
ElderCare rep to speak on safeguarding seniors
Karen Sessler of ElderCare will present "Safeguarding Our Seniors," at 1 p.m. Monday at the Great Bend Senior Center, 2005 Kansas Ave. Participants can learn how to keep themselves or a loved one safe at home. Sessler will cover tips on fall prevention, medication safety, identity protection, and signs that indicate an individual needs assistance. Sunday will be the last day people can view the Marko Fields and Carol Long Ceramics Exhibit at Barton Community College's Shafer Gallery. Copper wire theft costs victim thousands
Crime Stoppers of Barton County and Great Bend is seeking information about break-ins at Venture Corporation, at both the home office, 214 South U.S. 281, Great Bend, and the plant at Dundee.
