Sometime between 6 p.m. on Aug. 5 and 7:15 a.m. on Aug. 8, the Great Bend Co-op at 1600 Kansas Ave. was burglarized. Police Chief Dean Akings reports windows were broken to gain entry. Fire extinguishers and flashlights were stolen, for a total loss of $320. Anyone with information about this crime or any crime is asked to call Crime Stoppers, 792-1300, or 888-305-1300 for toll-free calls outside of Great Bend.
The annual Cheyenne Bottoms Wildlife Area information night will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, at the Kansas Wetland Education Center. The Ed Center is located northeast of Great Bend on Highway 156 in the southeast portion of the Wildlife Area.

A cougar that may be loaned to the Great Bend Brit Spaugh Zoo is coming from Panthera Research. This was reported in a story in the Aug. 5 Great Bend Tribune, but Panthera Research was confused with Panthera Corporation, a nonprofit conservation organization devoted to the world's 37 species of wild cats. Panthera Corporation does not rescue or take in animals of any kind.
