Faculty, head coaching contract renewals coming up at BCC
The Barton Community College Board of Trustees will look at contracts and other issues when it meets for the monthly study session, at 4 p.m. Thursday in the Seminar Room, F-30 of the Fine Arts Building. BCC offers Certified Medication Aide course
Barton Community College will offer a Certified Medication Aide Course from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, May 7 through June 11. Barton Community College has announced enrollment times for its summer 2011 outreach courses. The college's summer bulletin of classes lists all outreach courses and workshops. An orange and gray Trek bicycle was stolen from Golden Belt Bicycle Company, 1111 Main, on March 18. Great Bend Police Chief Dean Akings reports a man asked to test drive the bike and never returned. Drivers Education meeting
There will be a Drivers Ed parent meeting in the Commons area of the high school on Wednesday Students interested in taking driver education must be age 14 by June 1. Last names starting A-M will meet from 4 to 5 p.m. Last names N-Z will meet from 5 to 6 p.m. Enrollment will take place after the meeting, enrollment forms will not be accepted without payment. A tag sale at the Barton County Arts Center, 1401 Main, Great Bend, has been rescheduled. Executive Director Karen Neuforth said the said will be held Saturday, April 9, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Items including ceramics, paintings, frames and LPs will be on sale, with proceeds benefiting the BCAC. Donations are also welcome. This event was originally scheduled for this weekend.

A Great Bend home was burglarized twice during the month of May, Police Chief Dean Akings said. The house at 1604 Monroe St. was first burglarized between 9 and 9:30 p.m. on May 9. Man dies after motorcycle hits deer
A 38-year-old Ellinwood man died Monday night after the motorcycle he was driving hit at deer on U.S. 56. Daniel J. Otipoby was transported to Great Bend Regional Hospital. Shortly after his arrival he was pronounced dead. U.S. 56 was closed for about an hour between Ellinwood and Great Bend while the Barton County Sheriff's Office investigated the accident, Sheriff Brian Bellendir said. New art show to open Sunday

BCC trustees say no to guns on campus
The Barton Community College Board of Trustees will review a plan to opt out of new Kansas law that allows conceal-carry weapons on campus. The board will meet at 4 p.m. Thursday in the Seminar Room, F-30 of the Fine Arts Building, for its monthly study session. The board will vote at its next business meeting on whether to adopt the resolution to opt out of the new law for four years.

An Ellinwood woman died Sunday after the car she was riding in went off K-25 at 3:24 p.m., 6 miles north of Interstate 70 in Thomas County.
Recreation Commission board looks at budget time line

Man hit by car while crossing 10th St.
A pedestrian who ran across 10th St. and ran into the side of a vehicle at 10:12 p.m. Sunday sustained a broken leg. Richard Garcia was transported to Great Bend Regional Hospital, where he was treated and released.
