Sunflower Polka Club: Wes Windholz Band to perform at free dance

The Sunflower Polka Club will have a free dance from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, March 6, at the Hoisington Knights of Columbus, located at Second and Main in Hoisington. The Wes Windholz Band will perform. There will be no BYOB or setups. The public is welcome to this event. The dance club enjoys a variety of music and dance styles, not just polka.

Friends of Library to meet in one week

The Great Bend Public Library Friends group will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 6, in the library's Kansas Room. Plans are being made for National Library Week in April and the annual book sale. Membership is $10 a year.

Lifeguard training offered in March

The Great Bend Recreation Commission's Lifeguard Training Class will be held March 20-25 at Barton Community College. This class is for any individual wanting to become a lifeguard. Those enrolling need to be 16 years old or older. Swimming skills needed include the crawl, sidestroke, breaststroke and elementary backstroke. Russell man injured in motorcycle pursuit

A 43-year-old Russell man was injured after wrecking a motorcycle while fleeing police at 2 a.m. Saturday. Jeffrey Carl Searles was taken to a hospital in Wichita. A Via Christi Health spokesman said he remained in critical condition Saturday afternoon. ElderCare rep to speak on safeguarding seniors

​Library announces teen movie, free computer class

Great Bend Public Library will show "Annie" at the next Teen Movie Monday, 4 p.m. on May 20. The free movie is open to all students in grades 7-12. The library will have another free computer class at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21. The class will explain Goodreads, the largest world's largest website for readers and book recommendations. Rape reported in county

The Barton County Sheriff's Office is investigating a rape report. On Friday morning, a woman came to St. Rose Urgent Care and said she had been raped two days earlier. She said a man in a vehicle asked for directions then attacked her on a dirt road near the college (in the 100 block of SE 20 Ave. and NE 10 Road).

GBMS band concert

The Great Bend Middle School Band Department will be having their spring band concerts on Thursday at the Great Bend Middle School gym. The 7th Grade Band the GBMS Jazz Ensemble concert will begin at 6:45 p.m. The 8th Grade Band and the GBMS Jazz Ensemble concert will begin at 8:15 p.m. The concerts are free and open to the public.
