The Barton Community College Board of Trustees will approve new personnel when it meets at 4 p.m. Thursday in room F-30 of the Fine Arts Building. The list of potential employees includes a part-time coordinator for the new Pharmacy Technician Program.

The Great Bend Recreation Commission Board will approve changes to the rules for youth baseball and softball and for adult softball when it meets at 4 p.m. Monday at the Carl Soden Recreation Center, 1214 Stone St. Also on the agenda are a field groomer specifications and purchase, and an executive session for discussion of personnel.
USD 428 Board of Education will meet at 5 p.m. on Monday at the District Education Office, 201 South Patton Road. Items of the agenda include approval of the 2012-2013 District Calendar, bond refinancing, approval to purchase computer hardware and software, new GBHS band uniforms, and Superintendent's report on Lincoln Elementary School Principal search update and 7th grade competitive athletics updates.
The Great Bend Police Department plans to test tornado sirens at noon on Monday, March 12, Lt. Bill Browne said.
Crime Stoppers is seeking information about the theft of items from a storage shed in Great Bend earlier this year. Police Chief Dean Akings said the shed at 800 Washington St. No. 54 was last visited on Jan. 20. The items were stolen sometime between that date and Feb. 20, when it was discovered that the padlock was missing.
A blown out tire and the wind each played a factor in a fire that occurred Tuesday evening southeast of Great Bend.

The Great Bend Police Department arrested a man who was allegedly caught in the act of burglarizing a vehicle Sunday night.

An Otis woman was injured Tuesday evening on a Barton County road, 4 miles north and 3 miles west of Galatia.
An attempted fraud was reported to the Barton County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday. Someone called a Barton County resident saying her grandson was in trouble in New Mexico and needed help. The woman hung up before finding out what kind of "help" was wanted, and instead called her grandson, who said he was fine.
