Sterling College theater department presents "Ming Lee and the Magic Tree"
STERLING –Sterling College Theatre Department present two performances of "Ming Lee and the Magic Tree" on Wednesday at the college's Culbertson Auditorium. This show is intended for all ages and is being produced by the SC interterm course, "Children's Theatre Workshop." Date changed for Barton County Spelling Bee
The Barton County Spelling Bee, originally scheduled for the morning of Feb. 12 at the Great Bend High School Auditorium, has been rescheduled to Feb. 5. Sponsors said the date was changed because there was a conflict with the use of the auditorium.
Seniors announce ice cream social
Senior Citizens are invited to enjoy an afternoon of socializing and eating ice cream at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Great Bend Senior Center, 2005 Kansas Ave. The Senior Center will provide ice cream and cookies.

New exercise classes start Monday
The Great Bend Recreation Commission is forming its New Year sessions of exercise classes for people 18 years of age and older, program coordinator Garet Fitzpatrick said. Man reports being knocked out
The Great Bend Police Department is investigating a local man's report that he was hit in the head and knocked unconscious Tuesday in the area of 10th and Kansas. Lt. Registration for Story Time starts Monday
Registration for the next weekly Story Time sessions at the Great Bend Public Library starts Monday, Children's Librarian Eric Coulbourne said. Parents are invited to bring children to the library, 1409 Williams St., for story time from 10:15 to 11 a.m. on Tuesdays and Fridays, beginning Jan. 18. They will hear stories, do a craft, sing songs and have fun at this free program.
Library observes holidays
Great Bend Public Library will be closed Friday, Saturday and Sunday for Christmas. The library will also be closed Dec. 31 and Jan. 1 for New Year's.

The Great Bend Middle School Band Department will be having their spring band concerts on Thursday at the Great Bend Middle School gym. The 7th Grade Band the GBMS Jazz Ensemble concert will begin at 6:45 p.m. The 8th Grade Band and the GBMS Jazz Ensemble concert will begin at 8:15 p.m. The concerts are free and open to the public. The bands are directed by Kurtis Koch and assisted by Mark DeWald.
