Girl Scouts announce cookie booths

Girl Scouts in Great Bend will run cookie booths at two locations this week, according to Larissa Graham, area service manager.

GBHS class of 1957 making plans for reunion

Members of the Great Bend High School class of 1957 are encouraged to attend a meeting to discuss and continue plans for the class reunion and get together to be held in September. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, at the Best Western Angus Inn Courtyard.

BCCC board plans Fort Riley retreat

The Barton Community College Board of Trustees will not have a study session this week as previously scheduled. Instead, board members will travel to Junction City and Fort Riley on Thursday, March 8, for a retreat.

Krug to talk about social networking

Senior citizens and others interested in learning about sites like Facebook and MySpace can attend a free Stop 'N Learn program this week at the Great Bend Senior Center, 2005 Kansas Ave. "Social Networking: Making the Connections," will start at 1 p.m. Friday. Barton County Extension Agent Donna Krug will be the presenter.

Barnes to speak on Native American art and culture

Barton County Historical Society will meet at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 27 at the Historical Museum. David Barnes, director of Shafer Gallery at Barton Community College, will provide the program, "Native American Art and Culture."

Information sought on daylight burglary

Crimes Stoppers is seeking information on a daylight burglary that occurred Feb. 3 at a Great Bend residence. Police Chief Dean Akings reports that sometime between 7:30 and 11:10 a.m., someone entered the residence at 1401 Wilson St. through the garage door. A flat-screen television, computer and monitor, hand tools and many power tools were stolen, and the residence was damaged. Loss and damage will exceed $17,000.

GBCT announces auditions for ‘Messiah On The Frigidaire’

Great Bend Community Theatre announces that auditions for "Messiah On The Frigidaire," a dramatic comedy by John Culbertson, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 4, and at 7 p.m. Monday, March 5 at the Crest Theater.

GBRC offers dog program at next Stop ‘N Learn

"Dog Care" will be the topic of a free Stop 'N Learn session, from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Great Bend Activity Center, 2715 18th St. Bill Niederee, D.V.M. will talk about vaccinations, diet, micro chips, fleas and tick prevention, and other information. There will also be time for questions.

Terry Turner, DVM, reception

After several decades of service, Terry Turner, DVM, has withdrawn from the board of directors of the Golden Belt Humane Society. Dr. Turner served as Vice-President for most of those years, and his input and assistance will be missed. A celebration of thanks will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Feb. 26 at the Elk's Lodge. All friends are invited to wish him well.

Jewelry stolen during burglary

Jewelry valued at $9,400 when a Great Bend residence was burglarized earlier this month, Police Chief Dean Akings said. There was no forced entry into the residence, located at 3727 22nd St., but construction was being performed there. Sometime during the period of Feb. 6-8, unknown persons entered and took goal and diamond earrings, a gold ring with ruby stone, a gold ring with a cluster of diamonds, two other gold rings and a gold necklace.
