Central Prairie Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D), Council and Honor Flights will hold an open house on July 14 in their new offices located at 1916 16th Street, in Great Bend. Refreshments will be serviced from 3 to 5 p.m. with a council meeting at 6:30 p.m.
Area law enforcement officers routinely receive reports of animals that have strayed into county roads, or of objects that are impeding traffic. On Thursday, the Barton County Sheriff's Office made sure bales were moved off the 600 block of North U.S. 281, around 10:30 a.m., and checked on a report of about a dozen goats in a ditch in the 400 block of NW 70 Ave. over the noon hour.
Holding a public hearing for the 2011-12 budget is on the agenda Monday for the Great Bend Recreation Commission Board of Directors. The board will meet at 4 p.m. at the Carl Soden Recreation Center, 1214 Stone St. Also on the agenda is the appointment of the board treasurer, and information about co-ed softball rules.
If you see local youths being hauled around on Friday in police cars or in the back of ambulances, it is not because they are in trouble with the law or injured in an accident. Approximately 70 seventh and eighth graders are participating in the annual City of Great Bend Youth Academy.

STAFFORD - U.S. Senator Jerry Moran (Rep-KS) has canceled a planned trip to Stafford Friday. The recess was cancelled and the Senate was called back in session so he will be in Washington, D.C. However, they do plan on rescheduling in Stafford although a time is not yet set.

The Barton Community College Board of Trustees will hold a retreat from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday and from 8:30-11:30 a.m. Thursday in room A-113 of the Administration Building on campus. The purposes of the retreat are to review college policies and service operations, development of the fiscal year 2012 budget development and strategic planning. Although all board meetings are open to the public, no action will be taken.
On June 1 the Great Bend Tribune published a story about a 9-year-old boy being hit by a hit-and-run vehicle at 6:40 p.m. on May 27. The Tribune reported that the boy was mowing, which was an error. He had finished mowing and was pushing the mower when a car driven by Tabatha Bomgardner, 25, of Great Bend turned the corner at 12th and Harrison, running over the mower and injuring the boy.
Plans for a March retreat are on the agenda for the Barton Community College Board of Trustees meeting, set for 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, in the Seminar Room, F-30 of the Fine Arts Building.
Sunday's Great Bend Tribune featured a story from Barton Community College about Carli Newkirk and the Medical Assistant program. There were two errors, a college spokesman said.
