Cancer support group announces December programs

The Touched by Cancer support group will meet at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, at the Heartland Cancer Center, 204 Cleveland St. Youngsters from Central Kansas Christian Academy will be singing Christmas carols, and candy canes will be distributed.

BCC’s Hilltop Singers to host Jingle Bell Swing dance

Barton Community College will again host the Jingle Bell Swing dance, with music provided by the Hilltop Singers and a 17-piece big band made up of area musicians. The dance runs from 8-10:30 p.m. Saturday at the Great Bend American Legion, 1011 Kansas Ave.

BCC to offer private pilot ground school

Prospective pilots from the area will have a chance to learn the fundamentals of flying as Barton Community College will offer private pilot ground school classes from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Jan. 9 through May 9, in BCC's Technical Building, T-178.

Young Living will presents the “Raindrop Technique”

Rec to host Christmas Entertaining Meals

The Great Bend Recreation Commission is taking reservations for a Christmas Entertaining Meals luncheon program on Wednesday, Dec. 7, at the Great Bend Recreation Center, 1214 Stone St. Program Coordinator Garet Fitzpatrick invites the public to "get into the Christmas spirit with a wonderful meal and the sounds from the Great Bend Middle School Women In Harmony group. The meal will begin at noon and entertainment will be held from 12:15-12:45 p.m., followed by time to visit with your friends before you head back to work at 1 p.m."

BCC students to present recitals to kick off Performing Arts Student Showcase

Barton Community College will present a student recital of instrumental and vocal performances at 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30 in the Dorothy Moses Morrison Chapel, located in BCC's Fine Arts Building, F-157.

College to look at vehicle bids

The Barton Community College Board of Trustees will discuss college vehicle replacement bids at its December study session, set for 4 p.m. Thursday in the Seminar Room, F-30 of the Fine Arts Building. Other items on the agenda include military certificates, the BCC financial statement, EduKan budget, plans to meet with legislators in the BCC service area, iPad training and the 2012 Association of Community College Trustees' Legislative Summit, Feb. 13-16 in Washington, D.C. Trustees will also discuss changing the date of the December business meeting from Dec. 15 to Dec. 13.

USD Board of Education meeting

USD 428 Board of Education will meet at noon on Thursday at Great Bend High School, 2027 Morton. Items on the agenda include, policy development relating to fundraising practices in the district and presentation of any offers received on the Shady Grove property. Great Bend High School Principal Tim Friess and other staff members will share information regarding the academic programs and the school improvement efforts at Great Bend High School.

Program offers grief support for the holidays

Ambulance responds to SUV rollover

A rural Barton County man sustained possible injury Wednesday morning after the 2000 Nissan Xterra he was driving went off the road in the 300 block of NW 20 Ave. J.B. Slater told dispatch the air bags had deployed, he had chest pains from the accident and he was unable to get out of the vehicle.
