Golden Belt Community Concert Association announces meeting

The Golden Belt Community Concert Association will host its annual meeting at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 15, at the Rosewood Furniture Gallery annex, 1607 Main, Great Bend. All members of the association are welcome to attend the meeting. The board of directors will meet immediately following the annual meeting.

Pickup hits tractor near Olmitz

Two people were transported to Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington on Thursday, after a pickup hit the back of a John Deere on NW 90 Road and NW 90 Ave., two miles south of Olmitz.

Tools stolen from pickup

Crime Stoppers is looking for information about the theft of tools from a pickup parked at Travelers Budget Inn, 4200 10th St., the night of Dec. 8. Great Bend Police Chief Dean Akings said the theft occurred between 11 p.m. on Dec. 8 and 7:30 a.m. on Dec. 9. Items stolen were a Dewald 18 volt impact drill, a Dewald 18 volt combo drill, a 3/8 9 amp VSR drill and a Milwaukee saw. Loss was $850.

Rec Commission seeking snow sculptures

Barton County received anywhere from 3 to 9 inches of snow Monday and Tuesday, with the greatest snowfall occurring around Claflin, according to the National Weather Service. Snowfall was followed by the appearance of snowmen and other snow sculptures.

Barton Community College announces holiday closings

Barton Community College offices will be closed for the holiday break Dec. 19-30. All offices will reopen at 7:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 2. Spring semester classes will begin Monday, Jan. 9.

BCC unveils Computer Aided Drafting certificate program

Barton Community College will be offering a new 21 credit-hour Computer Aided Drafting certificate program beginning in the upcoming spring 2012 semester. Supported by grant funds, the program will offer students the ability to work with state of the art CAD software. The program includes classes on campus with the option of taking some courses online.

Car slides into ditch; driver injured

Patricia M. Halseth, 41, of Great Bend, was transported to Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington on Sunday after the car she was driving slid off U.S. 281 near NE 60 Road in Barton County.

Mathew Cooley of Hoisington was taken to Great Bend Regional Hospital with a possible head injury after a one-vehicle accident Monday on U.S. 281.
