BUSHTON - The Quivira Heights High School Class of 2011 will graduate at 11 a.m. Saturday at Quivira heights High Schoool. It is the 35th and final graduating class for QHHS before the school merges with Claflin at Central Plains in 2011.

Sometime between 1 p.m. on May 1 and 2 p.m. on May 3, a burglary occurred at a drilling rig owned by Petromark Drilling.

Great Bend Public Library will begin operating under summers at the end of the month. Effective May 31, the library will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays; 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursdays; and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. It will be closed on Sundays.
For the next two Saturdays, the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program will be selling recycled Memorial Day flowers in the Zarah Mall.

Barton Community College has announced enrollment times for its summer 2011 outreach courses. The college's summer bulletin of classes lists all outreach courses and workshops. Bulletins are available at area libraries and high schools. Enrollment for outreach classes in Russell is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, at Russell High School. Courses include English Composition I (ITV), Introduction to Sociology (ITV), English Composition II and College Algebra. Barton Community College will offer a Certified Medication Aide Course from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, May 7 through June 11. Clinicals will take place at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation. Classroom sessions will be at KansasWorks, 1025 Main. Participants must be Certified Nurse Aides to enroll. Instructor is Mary Boman.
The Great Bend Recreation Commission will offer an American Red Cross lifeguard certification course March 16-21 at the Barton Community College pool. GBRC offers the ARC Water Park Lifeguard training class. This class includes CPR for the professional rescuer, AED, and first aid. This is a 24-31-hour course.
Barton Community College will host a blood drive from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28 in the Technical Building in room T-186, the Case New Holland Training Building. All types of blood are needed.
