Library announces holiday hours

Great Bend Public Library's hours for this week are: 1-5 p.m. today; noon to 9 p.m. Monday; 1:30-9 p.m. Tuesday; 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturday. The library will be closed Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving.

Auditions for BCC 2012 community musical ‘L’il Abner’ scheduled Nov. 28, 29

Barton Community College's Performing Arts Departments have announced auditions for the college's spring musical, "L'il Abner," based on the book by Norman Panama and Melvin Frank and the characters created by Al Capp.

BCC to host patriotic instrumental concert

Barton Community College will host a concert in honor of the upcoming 70th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor and the recent 10 year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, entitled, "In Remembrance," at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 21, in the Fine Arts Auditorium.

‘History of Cheyenne Bottoms’ to be presented at Great Bend Senior Center

The Great Bend Recreation Commission will host a free program on the history of Cheyenne Bottoms at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, at the Senior Center, 2005 Kansas Ave. Eric Giesing, an educator with the Kansas Wetlands Education Center and Fort Hays State University, will present a brief history of the Bottoms. Afterward, participants will be invited to share interesting stories of their lives while growing up in the Barton County area.

Macro photography program rescheduled

The Great Bend Recreation Commission has rescheduled the Stop 'N Learn Session titled, "Macro Photography" to Tuesday, Dec. 13t, from noon to 1 p.m. at the Great Bend Activity Center, 2715 18th St. This free program was originally scheduled for this week.

Great Bend Library participating in ‘Snapshot: A Day in the Life’

On Thursday, the Great Bend Public Library will join libraries across the state in participating in "Snapshot: A Day in the Life of Kansas Libraries." The purpose of the event is to demonstrate how important academic, public, school and special libraries are to the citizens of Kansas, said Jennifer King, head of the GBPL marketing department.

Roofing bids on BCC agenda

The Barton Community College Board of Trustees will consider roofing bids for the Administration Building when it meets at 4 p.m. Thursday in the Seminar Room, F-30 of the Fine Arts Building. Other items on the agenda include a monitoring report on regional workforce needs, financial aid presentation, personnel and an executive session for the discussion of personnel matters.

Beier wins charity poker tournament

Thomas Beier of South Hutchinson took home $500 for his first-place win in the recent Sunflower Diversified Services Texas Hold 'Em poker tournament. June Garrett of Claflin won $300 for second place and Karen Watts of Hays earned $150 for third.
