The final tally for the Barton Community College Foundation's 33rd Annual Big Benefit Auction is in at just over $75,000, which far exceeds the Foundation's initial goal of $45,000.

Someone entered the residence and took a white X-box 360 game system and a 32-inch Panasonic television, serial number LY91180511. Estimated loss was $800.

The trial dates for Shawn Ney were changed Tuesday to Feb. 27 through March 2, 2012. Last week, the office of Attorney General Derek Schmidt announced a January trial date, but that was changed because the defense counsel had a scheduling conflict. Ney is charged with the first-degree murder of Steven Calderwood, attempted first-degree murder of Sarah Ney, and aggravated burglary, all stemming from events on July 10, 2010, in Barton County.
The Great Bend Public Library is forming a Teen Advisory Group to help with various areas of the Young Adult Department. In addition to making suggestions for new books to purchase for the collection, they will also help plan future teen programs, such as Movie Nights and Game Days. Teens in grades 7-12 are welcome to join.
