Walnut Valley Potato Bar

'Potato Bar Season" will begin Sept. l8, at the Walnut Valley Senior Center in Rush Center. Beginning 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., slow baked potatoes, a large variety of salads and desserts to select from and coffee or tea are served. Planned dates are Sept. 18; Oct. 16; Nov. 13; Dec. 18; Jan. 15; Feb. 19; March 25; April 15; and May 20. The public is welcome. The proceeds help to maintain the former grade school building for use by the community.

GBHS Panther Booster Tailgate

The Great Bend High School Booster Club will hold a Tailgate from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Friday, north of the Panther Athletic Center. Costs is $5 for a hambuger and brats dinner. The public is welcome.

BCC trustees working on plans for college, Camp Aldrich

The Barton Community College Board of Trustees is scheduled to act on the five-year Barton Success Plan and on the Barton Yearly College Plan when it meets at 4 p.m. Thursday in the Seminar Room, F-30 of the Fine Arts Building. Trustee Robert Feldt will also report on the Camp Aldrich Advisory Committee.

Crime Stoppers is seeking information about a burglary that occurred sometime between 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 23 and 12:45 p.m. on Aug. 24, at 5715 Aspen Drive, Apartment 6, in Great Bend. Someone entered the residence and took a white X-box 360 game system and a 32-inch Panasonic television, serial number LY91180511. Estimated loss was $800.

New trial date set for Ney

The trial dates for Shawn Ney were changed Tuesday to Feb. 27 through March 2, 2012. Last week, the office of Attorney General Derek Schmidt announced a January trial date, but that was changed because the defense counsel had a scheduling conflict. Ney is charged with the first-degree murder of Steven Calderwood, attempted first-degree murder of Sarah Ney, and aggravated burglary, all stemming from events on July 10, 2010, in Barton County.
