A cougar that may be loaned to the Great Bend Brit Spaugh Zoo is coming from Panthera Research. This was reported in a story in the Aug. 5 Great Bend Tribune, but Panthera Research was confused with Panthera Corporation, a nonprofit conservation organization devoted to the world's 37 species of wild cats. Panthera Corporation does not rescue or take in animals of any kind.
The Great Bend Recreation Commission will host "All About Tea" at 1 p.m. Friday at the Senior Center, 2005 Kansas Ave. This free program will be presented as a tea/social call in the parlor of post Civil War ladies. GBRC Program Coordinator Garet Fitzpatrick said participants will enjoy tea served by ladies dressed in the fashions of the mid 19th century, while learning interesting information about these tea socials. Cathy Weber, along with some friends, will be the presenters for this program.
The Great Bend High School Booster Club will be holding its "Fall Mixer" at 5 p.m. on Aug. 21 in the GBHS Jack Kilby Commons Area. The mixer, which will include meeting the coaches, is for athletes of all sports and their families. Hamburgers and beverages will be provided, bring a side dish and table service. Auditions for "Don't Talk to the Actors," the first show in Great Bend Community Theatre's 2011-2012 season, will be held at 2 p.m. on Aug. 21 and 7 p.m. Aug. 22 at the Crest Theater. The play is a comedy Tom Dudzick and will be performed Oct. 6-9.
