Free computer classes offered at Great Bend library
Presbyterian Women of Great Bend will hold their annual Rummage Sale on Saturday from 8 a.m. until noon, in the church Fellowship Hall at 24th and Washington.
The Great Bend Noon Kiwanis Club will sponsor its 53rd-annual Pancake Day from 4-7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 10, at the Expo One Building west of Great Bend on 10th Street. Pancakes, sausage and a beverage are $3. Tickets are available in advance from any Kiwanis club member or at the door.
Free Family Film Night will be held Friday at the Great Bend Public Library. Doors on the north side of the building will open at 6:45 p.m., and the movie will run from 7-8:15 p.m. Staff will be show the third movie in the series starring Boog, and his forest friends, said Terri Hurley, public relations director.
Crime Stoppers of Barton County and Great Bend is seeking information about the theft of equipment belonging to Classic Well service. Sometime between 6 p.m. on Feb. 18 and 7:30 a.m. on Feb. 21, elevators (used to hoist pipe) for a double drum pulling unit were stolen from a well site in the 5400 block of Second Street in Great Bend. Great Bend Police Chief Dean Akings said both elevators were red, BW-brand units. Loss was $5,364.
This week's Chamber of Commerce Coffee will be hosted by Northview Nursery, 172 North U.S. 281, at 9:30 a.m. Thursday. Ambassador in charge will be Jan Westfall with greeters Randy Bahe and Eric Gotsche. Coffee, doughnuts and door prizes will be available.
There are a few openings in the March 5 Kansas Wetlands Education Center "Nature's Marvelous Inventions" program for kids ages 6 to 12. The free program runs from 10-11 a.m. at the Center, 10 miles northeast of Great Bend on K-156. Discover where people found ideas for Velcro, airplanes, armor and paper - to name just a few human inventions already used by plants and animals - play a game and make an invention.
The Barton Community College Board of Trustees will hold a board retreat Thursday and Friday in Junction CIty and at Fort Riley. The board will meet from 8-10 p.m. Thursday at the Courtyard Junction City, 310 Hammons Dr., Junction City. On Friday members will meet from 7-11:45 a.m. in the Riley Conference Room, followed by a tour of Fort Riley from noon to 3:30 p.m., and concluding with a faculty/staff meeting from 4-6 p.m. at 602 N. Washington St., Junction City.
A women-only Basic Shoot clinic by C&R Training, will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on March 12 at the Zumalt Building, 301 W. Broadway in Stafford.

The Great Bend Public Library Friends group will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 6, in the library's Kansas Room. Plans are being made for National Library Week in April and the annual book sale. Membership is $10 a year.
The Great Bend Recreation Commission will host a free Stop 'N Learn Session titled "Wildlife Photography of Cheyenne Bottoms," from noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesday at the Great Bend Activity Center, 2715 18th St. This program will also be held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 7, at the Senior Center, 2005 Kansas Ave.
The Great Bend Recreation Commission's Lifeguard Training Class will be held March 20-25 at Barton Community College. This class is for any individual wanting to become a lifeguard.
The American Red Cross and Great Bend Recreation Commission will offer CPR classes at the GBRC Activity Center, 2715 18th St., on Saturday, March 19. Classes start at 8:30 a.m.
Barton Community College's BCC Theatre has announced auditions for its spring production, "Baby with the Bathwater," by Christopher Durang. Auditions are set for 6 p.m. Monday in the college's Fine Arts Auditorium.
The Great Bend Recreation Commission will offer an American Red Cross lifeguard certification course March 16-21 at the Barton Community College pool. GBRC offers the ARC Water Park Lifeguard training class. This class includes CPR for the professional rescuer, AED, and first aid. This is a 24-31-hour course.
Barton Community College will host a blood drive from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28 in the Technical Building in room T-186, the Case New Holland Training Building. All types of blood are needed.
Auditions for the Great Bend Community Theatre production of "Becky's New Car," by Steven Dietz, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 9, and 7 p.m. Monday, March 10, at the Crest Theatre, 1905 Lakin Ave. Note this is one week later than previously announced.

GALATIA - St. Paul Lutheran Church in Galatia is hosting a Soup Supper/Bingo night on Saturday, March 1 starting at 5:30 p.m., with bingo following at 7 p.m. Chicken noodle/butterballs, green bean dumpling, chili and homemade desserts will be served.
