The Great Bend Senior Center's August potluck dinner will feature pizza. The dinner will be held at the Senior Center, 2005 Kansas Ave., at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9. The fee for the pizza is $1.50 and those planning to attend should call 792-3906 to make a reservation. Participants are asked to bring a covered dish and their own table service to the dinner.

A two-day defensive driving course will be taught next Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 8-9, at the Great Bend Senior Center, 2005 Kansas Ave. Classes will meet from 1-4 p.m. both days and will be taught by Steve Billinger with the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Area residents are invited to form a bowling team for the annual Bowl For Kids Sake, sponsored by Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Barton and Pawnee Counties. This year's event is set for Saturday, Aug. 14, at the Walnut Bowl in Great Bend. All money raised will go to Big Brothers and Big Sisters. St. Francis Community Services will offer a free 10-week course for individuals interested in becoming foster parents. Classes start this week and will be held from 6-9 p.m. on Thursdays at the St. Francis office, 1508 Main, Great Bend. The course is required by the state of Kansas before becoming a foster parent. Sometime between 9 p.m. on July 14 and 4:30 p.m. on July 15, a white Morton building at 5406 Seventh St. in Great Bend was burglarized. A window air conditioner, a 3/4 inch drive socket set and a 12-ton floor jack were stolen. Loss was $360.

RYLA is a worldwide program that provides future leaders the opportunity to expand and hone their leadership skills.
