Paleo diet continues shedding the pounds

Well, another week has gone by and so has another two pounds via Paleo. I guess losing two pounds in a week is good, but it is still hard to be patient. I know didn't get where I am today in a month, so I shouldn't be surprised if it takes a little time to get where I need to be.

Try simple, yet creative flavors

This recipe is an oldie, but goodie! I had a big zucchini that needed using up and I was sooo in the mood for these yummy (and guiltless) zucchini pizza bites!! It is a perfect way to use up all the zucchini in your garden and satisfy your craving for pizza in a low-carb way.

First week of Paleo: So far so good

You know, it's really difficult for me to admit, but so far so good. After my first week on Paleo, I've dropped three pounds and feel less bloated. I don't seem to retain water as much – even after a dinner of kraut and brats. Normally that's good for about five extra pounds the following 48 hours. This go around, not an ounce. Don't ask me to explain, it's just how it is. I can already notice less bulk around my mid-section.

Stick to the rules, with or without inspiration

Well it's week two of this column, and I wish I had something inspirational to write about. With another week of dedication and determination, I only lost one pound. But I have to keep looking at it positively. It's one more pound than I had lost last week, and it's one pound I didn't put on. And that's the point, right? Changing your life is for the better – for the sake of being healthy, not for the sake of a number on a scale.

Outdoor exercise still a possibility during cold weather

When colder weather sets in, some people abandon their outdoor fitness routines for the comfort of indoor gyms and home exercise equipment. However, walking in the winter and even jogging, when practical, are not limited to the warmer months of the year. Outdoor conditions can be a bit treacherous, so safety and common sense should always prevail.

Lifestyle columnist goes ‘paleo’

Let me be upfront. Since my early teens, I have always had to "watch" my weight. Didn't matter if I was on a softball team, ran track or was on a 7-day-a-week workout schedule, I still had to be careful what I ate. Thus, I think I may have tried about every "diet" known to man. I've tried Atkins, extra-low fat, cabbage soup and even that awful grapefruit diet-for those of you who know me and how well fruit and I get along, imagine how pleasant that one was. I don't do diet pills, prepackaged diet ...

Health is in your hands

It's been more than two years. For some reason, I had set this impossible standard that my body should be back to "normal" within a few months of giving birth. So when my first child was born in August 2011, the clock was ticking. I'm not sure where two years went, but as his second birthday approached I had an epiphany. My health is in my own hands, and what I was doing wasn't working. (What I was doing was nothing.) I hadn't joined a gym and I hadn't changed my diet. I know it ...
