TOPEKA – Last year 60 percent, more than 12,000, of the calls to the Kansas Poison Control Center involved medications, or pharmaceuticals. The Kansas Poison Control Center and Safe Kids Kansas want to remind all adults to keep medications (both prescription and over-the-counter) locked up, out of sight and out of reach of children. Parents should also talk to their teens about the importance of following directions on dosing for all medications.

When the alarm goes off at 4:30 a.m., contrary to popular belief, I do not jump out of bed shouting, “Hooray! It’s time to run! Wahoo!” There is no pep in my step. I'm neither bright-eyed nor bushy-tailed. My husband knows better than to talk to me for at least a good 30 minutes after I’m up. I’ve mastered the art of dressing with my eyes closed, as if this counts as extra sleep.
