Larned's City Council will have a special session at 6:30 p.m. Monday at City Hall, 417 Broadway. One agenda item is a review of the donation policy for a splash pad/Doerr-Vernon Park renovation. Other items include: Santa Fe Street Improvement District, review and approval of the Efficiency Kansas Loan Program Partnership, review and awarding of a bid for a hydraulic impact tool for the city's fire hydrants, designation of city representatives for the upcoming League of Kansas Municipalities Annual Business Meeting;
Northern Ireland farmer William Taylor introduced his prototype Livestock Power Mill recently and claimed that the world's 1.3 billion cattle, using treadmills for eight hours a day, could produce 6 percent of the world's electricity requirement.
Vincent Scott Dorsey, Veterans' Service representative, will be in Larned from noon until 2 p.m. today at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post Home. He will then be in the Reimbursement Office at Larned State Hospital from 2:30 until 4 p.m. to assist veterans and their dependents or survivors with questions about veterans' benefits.
On Tuesday, Oct. 5, The Quilting Bees and Healthy Heart Clinic will hold a Cancer Awareness Program and Auction, beginning at 7 p.m. at Scraps in Larned. It will be similar to the program held last year. Alice Clapsaddle will be the auctioneer.
