Pawnee County Humane Society new aninmal shelter

The Pawnee County Humane Society, Inc., will be breaking ground on their new animal shelter at 3 p.m. on Saturday at the shelter site location at the corner of West 8th Street and Highway 264. Representatives from the city of Larned, Larned Correctional Mental Health Facility and the Pawnee county Humane Society, Inc. Board of Directors will be present. Refreshments will be served.

Thursday is Legion Riders' Taco Night

Thursday will be Taco Night at the American Legion Post Home on east Seventh Street. It will last from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Serving will be upstairs at the post home. The event is sponsored by the American Legion Riders of Post 106, Larned. Taco Night is held on the second Thursday of each month.

Turkey shoot, etc., set for Thursday in Garfield

GARFIELD - Garfield's 86th annual turkey shoot will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Porteous Park in Garfield. Veterans' Day bingo will begin at noon. Church women slate soup, pie lunch, crafts fair

The Episcopal Women of Sts. Mary & Martha Episcopal Church, at 8th and Main in Larned, will have a soup and pie luncheon, and a crafts fair/show, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the church. Chili and chicken noodle soup will be featured, as well as pie.

K of C slates hog fest Nov. 13

The Larned Knights of Columbus Council 3273 will have its Fall Hog Fest from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, at the K of C Hall on Scenic Drive in southwest Larned. Admission is $9 for adults, $5 for those younger than 12. The menu will feature pulled pork, new potatoes, baked beans, coleslaw, bread and tea or coffee.

Vets’ representative to be in Larned Tuesday

Vincent Scott Dorsey, Veterans' Service representative of the Kansas Commission on Veterans Affairs, Dodge City, will be in Larned at the Veterans of Foreign War Building from noon to 2 p.m. and at Larned State Hospital in the Reimbursement Office from 2:30 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday to assist veterans, their dependents or survivors with questions concerning veterans benefits.

Quilting Bees guild meets at church

Eighteen members of the Quilting Bees guild met Nov. 2 at the Presbyterian Church. Ann Hicks demonstrated the Maple Leaf quilt block due in January and how to make quick and easy 8 quilt blocks from two fat quarters. Becky Obermiller was thanked for constructing 70 dog scarves for the Pawnee County Humane Society. Thanks also to Jadene Colglazier for donations of fabric and batting.

Haas wins county commission post

In a close race, John C. Haas, with just a little more than 53 percent of the votes cast, defeated Isaac Lemuz for the First District Pawnee County Commissioner's post. Haas will take Arlis Atteberry's seat on the three-person commission in January.
