The Pawnee County Humane Society, Inc., will be breaking ground on their new animal shelter at 3 p.m. on Saturday at the shelter site location at the corner of West 8th Street and Highway 264. Representatives from the city of Larned, Larned Correctional Mental Health Facility and the Pawnee county Humane Society, Inc. Board of Directors will be present. Refreshments will be served.

In a close race, John C. Haas, with just a little more than 53 percent of the votes cast, defeated Isaac Lemuz for the First District Pawnee County Commissioner's post. Haas will take Arlis Atteberry's seat on the three-person commission in January.
