Church women slate soup, pie lunch, crafts fair

The Episcopal Women of Sts. Mary & Martha Episcopal Church, at 8th and Main in Larned, will have a soup and pie luncheon, and a crafts fair/show, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the church. Chili and chicken noodle soup will be featured, as well as pie.

K of C slates hog fest Nov. 13

The Larned Knights of Columbus Council 3273 will have its Fall Hog Fest from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, at the K of C Hall on Scenic Drive in southwest Larned. Admission is $9 for adults, $5 for those younger than 12.

Vets’ representative to be in Larned Tuesday

Vincent Scott Dorsey, Veterans' Service representative of the Kansas Commission on Veterans Affairs, Dodge City, will be in Larned at the Veterans of Foreign War Building from noon to 2 p.m. and at Larned State Hospital in the Reimbursement Office from 2:30 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday to assist veterans, their dependents or survivors with questions concerning veterans benefits.

Quilting Bees guild meets at church

Eighteen members of the Quilting Bees guild met Nov. 2 at the Presbyterian Church. Ann Hicks demonstrated the Maple Leaf quilt block due in January and how to make quick and easy 8 quilt blocks from two fat quarters. Becky Obermiller was thanked for constructing 70 dog scarves for the Pawnee County Humane Society. Thanks also to Jadene Colglazier for donations of fabric and batting.

Haas wins county commission post

In a close race, John C. Haas, with just a little more than 53 percent of the votes cast, defeated Isaac Lemuz for the First District Pawnee County Commissioner's post. Haas will take Arlis Atteberry's seat on the three-person commission in January.

Turkey dinner set for Nov. 13 at Larned UMC

The annual turkey dinner in the fellowship hall at Larned's United Methodist Church will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Nov. 13. Tickets in advance are $7 for adults ($8 at the door), and $3 for kids ages 6 to 12. Those younger than 6 eat "for free."

Health fair set for Friday at First State Bank, Larned

A community health fair will take place from 6:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at First State Bank & Trust, Larned. Blood tests, flu shots, health education and more will be available.

Ribbon cutting set at Kris’s

Kris's Diner, just south of the Kwik Shop, in the 1300 block of Broadway, will have a grand opening and ribbon cutting at 2:30 p.m. Friday. The diner has been open for a few weeks.

Armory to fire station conversion also on city's agenda

One "old business" item and two "new business" items have been added to the agenda for Monday night's meeting of the Larned City Council. The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall, 417 Broadway. The old item is consideration of converting the former Larned National Guard Armory into a fire station. The City of Larned owns the armory since it was closed early this year.

A pair of ‘fixes’

A couple of corrections, on matters appearing in Wednesday's Tribune: Sandy McMullen's name was misspelled in a cutline beneath a photo - it's Sandy McMullen, including the final "n." Also, children between ages 4 and 10 may eat for $2 at the Kiwanis event this Saturday, whether their tickets are bought in advance or "at the door." Your Larned editor apologizes for the errors.

Clerk’s office to be open Saturday for advance voting

Ruth Searight, Pawnee County clerk and elections officer, said Wednesday that her office at the courthouse in Larned will be open for advance voting from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, for Tuesday's General Election.

UMW slates turkey dinner Nov. 13

United Methodist Women will have their annual turkey dinner/fundraiser from 3 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 13, at the Larned United Methodist Church. Price is $7, or $8 at the door.

Pancakes and soups, and pies, oh, my!

The Larned Kiwanis Club will have its annual Pancake Feed from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday. Soups and pies will be served from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., as well as the pancake meal at the Haas Building in northeast Larned, on the fairgrounds. Admission will be $6 for adults, $5 for "seniors," 65 and older, if purchased in advance. Children ages 4-10 may eat for $2, advance tickets only. All tickets will be $7 at the door Saturday.
