Crime Stoppers event was a winner

Dear Editor, Crime Stoppers of Great Bend and Barton County hosted their memorial softball coed tournament in Ellinwood, Oct. 2 and 3. The purpose of the event was to make the public aware that Barton County has five people who lost their lives to foul play and these cases are currently still unsolved. Also, in the past 30 years 32 people were killed in our county. We wanted the public to remember them. The tournament ...

Ad payment should be public

Dear Editor, It's just wrong. Secret campaign cash should have no place in our American democracy. But now we are seeing huge sums of money from secret sources going into campaign advertising, much of it the negative advertising that poisons the airways. Special interests are spending millions and millions of dollars in this election and it threatens to drown out the voices of individual voters. And because of changes in the law, there are no ...

Stein is pro-education

Dear Editor, Kansas Legislative District 112 representative candidate, Christina Stein, is pro-education. The Kansas Association of School Boards gives legislators' education voting records to school board members. Sen. Ruth Teichmann is the only area legislator who consistently votes for education dollars and educational opportunities for K-12, community, technical, and university students. Our students are Kansas future leaders, business owners, technology experts and workers. They need a pro-education legislator. Please help our Kansas students by voting ...

Vote for Stein

Dear Editor, Christina Stein is an intelligent, enthusiastic young lady running for state representative in the 112th district. Not having a lot of campaign money, she had to use a lot of old fashion hard work like door-to-door and phone contacts to communicate her message. This example of dedication indicates that she will work hard to represent Great Bend and Barton County well in the legislature. Her experience working in USD 428 has given her ...

We don't need more big government

Dear Editor, Election day draws near and we are still buzzing about who to vote for. I had a short conversation with Christina Stein last spring where she made it quite clear big business was the problem with the United States. I later learned that she praises big unions. Ms. Stein is a staunch Obama health care supporter, saying that the 2,000-page taxing, spending, social mandating bill didn't go far enough. I, for one, believe ...

Vote to support voting rights

Dear Editor, You probably know someone with mental illness-a family member, a friend, a coworker, or maybe even yourself. What you probably don't know is that the Kansas constitution currently has the power to take that person's voting rights away. The legislature hasn't used its power to ban Kansans with mental illness from voting, but we still need to make a change. The Kansas Constitution needs to be in line with Kansas values. Right now, ...

Vote for Schremmer

Dear Editor, We are encouraging all voters to support the re-election of Kenny Schremmer as county commissioner. Mr. Schremmer has earned the respect of his fellow citizens. He has worked hard for the citizens of Barton County, and we would encourage anyone to examine his public service record prior to the election. Mr. Schremmer is a businessman who understands the effects of government action on the average citizen and business person. We are especially asking ...

Look up Stein's stands

Dear Editor, The election next week will decide how much of our freedom we will retain. If a candidate does not have a voting record and speaks in generalities on issues that are important to you, do your research! Anyone can go door to door and make promises to "work for you." After speaking to Ms. Stein at her Barton County fair booth I knew very little about her stand on health care, immigration, tax ...

Support for Stein

Dear Editor, Bill Wolf has served two terms as our state representative. He has established a record on which we can judge his service. If you really feel he has been a good representative, vote for him again. I, on the other hand, will not be voting for Bill Wolf for the following reasons: I do not trust Bill Wolf to work for what is in the best interest of our district. He is influenced ...

Wolf is a great choice

Dear Editor, October 19, the Public Forum carried a letter by James Graner admonishing all of us: Do your homework before voting. It is short, powerful, understandable, truthful, compelling and will be very helpful, if the advice is followed. I am a third generation Great Bend native, and am a graduate of Great Bend Senior High. Except for my college years, and two years in World War II (Navy destroyer radio operator-South Pacific), I have ...

Support for Koelsch

Dear Editor, I would like to express my support for Frank Koelsch as a candidate for the Fourth District county commissioner position. As a long-time resident of Ellinwood, I have personally observed Frank's dedication to serving the citizens of Barton County. Frank has lived and worked in Barton County his entire life, and he has first hand knowledge of how local governments operate. He has served as a city commissioner, and he is currently in ...

Issues matter -- petty attacks don't

Dear Editor, Issues matter. Petty attacks don't. Character is implicated when one misrepresents the facts. If anyone doubts where Christina Stein stands on Obamacare, go to kansasfreepress.com and read her article of Jan. 5. She wrote an article on it. It is not necessary to "cherry pick words" or "twist and take out of context" to conclude that she supports something even more radical than Obamacare. When I say that she thinks the Obama bill ...

Support for Radenberg

Dear Editor, I became acquainted with Kyle Radenberg through the Great Bend 9.12 Coalition group. Kyle was instrumental in the formation of the local 9.12 group. We elected her our president because she exhibited strong values of integrity and dedication. Kyle is a Republican candidate for District 1 county commissioner and I believe her values would make her an asset to the commission. Connie Klepper, Ellinwood

Myers explains actions at meeting

Yes I walked out of the council meeting. I should not have even sat there to begin with as I had told them I would not play their childish game and then I did. This was a planned rehearsed orchestrated attempt to discredit me with the voters. I wonder how many if not all of the council members discussed this with each other prior to the meeting.
