Dear Editor, We would like to say thank you to the Big Bend Bike Rally Committee, Tim and Robin Fabricus and all of the volunteers for putting on a good rally this year. Having music throughout the afternoon and have more vendors was a positive for sure and having the vendors outside was great. Bubba Blackwell was excellent entertainment and was enjoyed by all. The Airfest being at the same time as the Rally was ...
Dear Editor, The election is Nov. 6, what are your plans? In the primary, the missing group was the 20 to 40 year olds! The outcome of this election will have a major impact on your lives and there is no excuse for your apathy. On Nov. 6 you will have two choices. If the Brownback conservatives are elected, here's where we are headed, judges will be solely appointed by the governor and eventually the ...
Dear Editor, I read with interest the article by Dale Hogg regarding the judicial performance website for information about the judges who are on the ballot for retention. I would ask that if you find the website informative, you contact your legislators and encourage them to restore funding for the program. The Commission on Judicial Performance, of which I am a member, was implemented by the Kansas legislature to evaluate judges in the state. Until ...
Dear Editor, I want to thank Martin Miller, the sponsors and all of the Great Bend city employees that worked to put the Great Bend Airfair together that was held last month. The result of these efforts was a great aviation event for the young and old to enjoy. I want to thank all those that stopped by my B-29-Army Airfield display in the large B-29 hangar and told me the many stories related to ...
Dear Editor, I wish it were possible to thank each and every one who brought us the fabulous September 21 - 23 weekend. The events made possible by hundreds were an inspirational kaleidoscope of: aviation education; our B-29 WWII local history; the thrilling roar of the American Legion Riders who energize our patriotism, and do so many good things; visits with pilots-past heroes who helped us win WWII; the up-close thrill of inspecting vintage aircraft; ...
Dear Editor, When our government tries to talk to the terrorists in the Middle East, they assume that they have the same set of core values as the United States. They totally fail because the muslim's point of reference is totally different. For more than two thousand years, the tribes that have since become muslims fought with each other over control of the land and the people. They fought rather than talked. The fight between ...
Dear Editor, The religiousness of our world has devastated the truth of Christianity. Let me try to explain this thought. Human wisdom, human reasoning, human philosophies and humanitys ideology is to use education, discipline, rehabilitation, coaching, guidance counseling, enlightenment, control, indoctrination, and all kinds of recovery programs to make people right with an imaginary standard that humanity fails to define. As you can see from this explanation, our world is chasing its tail gaining no ...
Dear Editor, Our thanks to Martin Miller for all of his work to produce the wonderful "Air Fest" weekend. Thousands of people enjoyed the planes, fireworks, war re-enactors, concessions, and ceremonies presented by the American Legion Riders. We also enjoyed the tribute to the music of the 40s, presented by Great Bend's own "Little Big Band", with J.B. Webster and his crew. Few people realize the hundreds of hours of planning necessary to stage such ...
Dear Editor, POW/MIA Recognition Day, in honor and memory of the Prisoners of War and those Missing in Action, will be observed on Sept. 21. It honors all American POW/MIA's still missing from either the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard or civilians. In 1979 the first commemoration held to honor America's POW/MIA, those returned from war and those still missing and unaccounted for was held. National POW/MIA Recognition Day is now held ...
Dear Editor, As an avid animal lover and frequent zoo visitor to our local zoo and other zoos in the state, I was quite disappointed to learn of the AZA denial. I have watched the zoo grow and evolve over nearly twenty years. I am amazed and overjoyed at how far our little zoo has come. With that being said, I was very hopeful that the conference would end in a positive result for the ...
Dear Editor, I was pleased to read the article in the Great Bend Tribune about the vintage B-25 World War II bomber aircraft "Maid In The Shade", which made a visit to Great Bend. My late father John William "Bill" Marples and his sister Ina Marples (my late aunt) both worked at Boeing-Wichita during World War II. My Dad was a sheet-metal supervisor, being in-charge of over 500 men at one time, and my aunt ...
Dear Residents of Kansas, My name is Skyler Balsbaugh, and I am in 6th grade. I attend Brethren Heritage School in Modesto, Calif. We are doing state reports this year in our History class. I have chosen to do my report on your state of Kansas If you should happen to read this in your local newspaper, I would greatly appreciate receiving any information or items regarding your state. You could send pictures, tourist attraction ...
Dear Editor, One year ago on Sept. 15, my father was involved in a life threatening accident at Great Bend Industries. The car drive to Wichita after getting the call was the longest drive a person can make when you know that you may not hear good news once you arrive. We did get good news. While the past year has been full of recovery for my dad it at least has been a year ...
Dear Editor, September is National Preparedness Month, a time for Americans to prepare for disasters of all types, including personal ones that require blood transfusions. By giving blood through the American Red Cross, eligible donors can ensure blood is ready and available when any disaster strikes. Currently, eligible donors of all blood types are needed for the Red Cross to readily meet hospital and patient needs. Eligible donors with the most in-demand and often short ...
Dear Editor, As any smart businessman knows, the price of a product is based upon how much is available and how much demand there is for a product. Since the United States demands more gasoline than is available, the price goes up to the point that people drive less, and, therefore, demand meets the supply. Why do we have this shortage? It is primarily because the Obama administration has stopped most oil and gas development ...
Dear Editor,
Dear Editor,
Yes I walked out of the council meeting. I should not have even sat there to begin with as I had told them I would not play their childish game and then I did. This was a planned rehearsed orchestrated attempt to discredit me with the voters. I wonder how many if not all of the council members discussed this with each other prior to the meeting.
Dear Editor,
