Be safe out there

oung ones will soon be headed back to school. It's been a few months, so children and drivers need to remember some simple rules so this year can be a safe one for everyone. The Kansas Department of Transportation and the Kansas Highway Patrol offer the following:

Pump prices in Great Bend have been locked at $3.43 for weeks, even as they have tumbled elsewhere, making the per gallon cost among the highest in Kansas.

Game Playing: Voters turned away from polls

There isn't any significant voter fraud in Kansas or anywhere else for that matter. According to the Wichita Eagle, Aug. 13, 2012, out of 146 million nationwide voters over 12 years, there was one case for every 15 million prospective voters. Half of those cases were not prosecuted because of confusion about eligibility.

Voters in Barton County have the chance to hit the polls Tuesday for the county-wide primary election. This election is an excellent opportunity to help guide our county and state for years to come. With advance voting and absentee voting, casting ballots is easier that it ever has been in the past, give residents fewer reasons not to head to the polls.

Hate crimes

Great Bend residents routinely call the police to report that their cars or garages have been splattered with eggs or paint balls, and usually they're advised to wash everything off and call back if there was any actual damage. Sadly, vandals took it up a notch this week by writing racial slurs on the vehicles of a black family.
