The Kansas State Fair has started its annual 10-day at the Kansas State Fairgrounds in Hutchinson. This is the largest single event in the state, and annually attracts approximately 335,000 people from all 105 Kansas counties and several and beyond.

Governor Sam Brownback signed a proclamation Thursday designating Sept. 5-11 as Suicide Prevention Week in the State of Kansas. Suicide Prevention Week is recognized nationally as a time to raise awareness and educate people concerning suicide prevention. It is observed in conjunction with World Suicide Prevention Day on Sept. 10.
The school year is only days old and there is already the tragic story of three young people and one older driver dying in a car crash early last Thursday morning. The two-vehicle wreck occurred near Silver Lake and also critically injured another passenger.
