RUSSELL- Donald Lee Horyna, 79, died on Sunday, March 15, at the Locus Grove Village in LaCrosse. Born Sept. 6, 1935 at the family home in Great Bend, he was the son of Edward C. and Marie R. (Krmela) Horyna.
WICHITA - Joseph F. Bunk, 67, passed away Feb. 28. He was born July 14, 1947, in Great Bend, to Maurice and Mary (Kaechele) Bunk of Hoisington. In 1965, Joe graduated from Hoisington High School. After serving his country in the United States Army during the Viet Nam War, he attended Kansas State University and graduated with a Master's Degree in Business Administration and Accounting.
AUGUSTA - Victor L. Shumate, 64, died on March 12, at Kansas Medical Center in Andover. Born Jan. 4, 1951, in El Dorado, he was the son of Paul Bennett and Isa Lou (Gale) Shumate. He was a graduate of El Dorado High School and Butler County Community College. He was a retired truck driver and care giver. Mr. Shumate served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Era.
Leona A. Reichuber, 92, died March 13 at Cherry Village Nursing Home, Great Bend. Born Aug. 28, 1922 at rural Great Bend, she was the daughter of John and Antonia (Langer) Stoss.

HOISINGTON - Michele Lynn Popp, 61, of Sedalia, Mo., passed away March 11, 2015, at Bothwell Regional Health Center in Sedalia, Mo. Born Aug. 11, 1953, in Great Bend, she was the daughter of Eugene A. and Bobett T. Lott Beran. On June 1, 1974, she was united in marriage to Larry D. Popp, in Odin. Her life centered around her family. She also enjoyed cooking and sewing.
ELLINWOOD - Norman John Klepper, 95, died March 11, 2015, at Ellinwood District Hospital. He was born at his home in rural Ellinwood on June 23, 1919, to John and Mae (Arnsdorf) Klepper. Norman was a lifetime resident of Ellinwood, also living in Garfield for eight years. He attended Sts. Peter & Paul Grade School and was an Ellinwood High School graduate. She was a member of Otis United Methodist Church and Eastern Star #104 receiving her Gold Certificate representing 50 years, and Liberal Lyons Club. William Lorin "Bill" Janssen, 65, died March 7, at his home in Great Bend. Born Nov. 28, 1949, in Beloit, he was the son of William Franklin and Treva (Peters) Janssen. On Nov. 1, 1986, he married Shirley Smither Larson in Great Bend. The long time resident of Great Bend had been a private contractor for the United States Postal Service. He enjoyed bowling, golf, softball, sporting events, and above all, he treasured his time with his grandchildren.

LYONS - Mary Stone, 63, died March 28, at her home in Lyons. Born Nov. 8, 1951, in Beloit, she was the daughter of Albert and Freda Wooton Roof. She graduated from Great Bend High School and Barton Community College with an associates degree. On April 6, 1979, she married Jay B. Stone. A resident of Lyons since 1973, formerly of Great Bend, she was a Correctional Investigator at the Ellsworth Correctional Facility, Dispatcher for the Rice County Council of Aging and Quivira Transit.
HAYS - Carey A. Schulte, 56, former Hays and Russell resident, died March 27, at Via Christi Hospital/St. Francis Campus in Wichita. Born July 8, 1958, in Hays she was the daughter of John E. and Amelia (Dinkel) Schulte. She grew up in Victoria and attended the Anderson School of Hope at Victoria until it closed in the 1970's. She was a client with Development Services of Northwest Kansas for over 25 years and lived in Norton, Hill City, Ellis and Hays.

Delia "Dee" Farminer, 73, died March 26, 2015, at her home in North Newton. Born March 13, 1942, in Southampton, England, she was the daughter of Thomas and Gwendoline (Hooker) Eldridge. On Aug. 19, 1961, she married Eric Farminer in Southampton, England. He died on March 25, 1996. A resident of Great Bend since 1965, coming from Southampton, England, she recently lived in North Newton to be close to family. She was a caregiver for Elder Care.
Sister Connie Haug (Sister Omer), 80, died March 26, 2015, in the Dominican Sisters' convent infirmary in Great Bend. Born Sept. 28, 1934, in Seneca, as Constance Lucille Haug, Sister Connie was the daughter of Omer and Lucille Noll Haug. She entered the Dominican Sisters' Community in Great Bend on Aug. 28, 1952, and pronounced her first vows on June 13, 1955. She celebrated 50 years of religious profession in 2005.
BOULDER, Colo. - James Lane Williams, 91, of Boulder, Colo., died of natural causes on March 26, 2015, surrounded by his family. The son of Marie Steckel and J.O. Williams, he was born Nov. 27, 1923, in Ellinwood. His family lived in several towns in Oklahoma and Kansas before settling in Great Bend in 1937. He served in the United States Army during World War II and married Helen Thompson on March 25, 1944, while stationed in El Paso, Texas. He and Helen were married for 60 great years.
Billy Joe Leatherman, 75, died March 26, 2015, at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born Aug. 11, 1939, in Stafford, he was the son of Merle M. and Marie (Koelsch) Leatherman. She was born Sept. 22, 1921, to Robert John and Mae McWilliams Barnett on a farm southwest of Humboldt. Because her Dad rented from a family named Chicken, she always chuckled and said "I was born in the Chicken House."

Dwight graduated from Utica High School,Utica. He retired from the Missouri Pacific Railroad as a train dispatcher, after working there for more than 40 years.
