SEWARD - Ronald Lee Reneau, 57, passed away April 13, 2015 at the University of Colorado Hospital. He was born on Dec. 13, 1957, in Kiowa. He lived most of his life in the Hudson, St John and Seward area. He joined US Navy right after high school graduation and spent time in the Philippines, Japan and Hawaiian Islands. He trained with the United States Navy Seals as their Assault Coxman.
RADIUM - Marvin Leroy Brown, 75, passed away April 19, at his home in Radium. Born July 8, 1939, in Great Bend, he was the son of J.P. and Frances (Ward) Brown. A resident of Radium since 1985, he was a welder. On Feb. 14, 1985, he married Lana C. (Mettscher) in Kansas City, MO. She survives of the home.
ST. JOHN - Norma Lea Gray, 78, died April 14, 2015 at Southwind Hospice in Pratt. Born Feb. 1, 1937, in Creek County, Okla., she was the daughter of Lester and Ruby (Browning) Allen. On Aug. 18, 1952, she married Melvin Eugene Gray in Oilton, Okla.
FREDONIA - Wanda Lee Deer, 93, passed away Sept. 23, 2014 in Wichita. Born on Feb. 28, 1921, in Hoisington, she was the daughter of Frank Edward and Nellie (Coats) Sypolt. On May 19, 1960, she was united in marriage to Kelso Deer. He preceded her in death. She worked as an executive secretary for Phillips Petroleum for many years.
FRONTENAC - Patrick John O'Connell, 86, passed away at 12:40 p.m. on April 14, 2015 at the Medicalodge of Frontenac. He was born March 29, 1929, in Pittsburg, the son of William F. and Mary (Kinsella) O'Connell. He graduated from St. Mary's High School and later from Pittsburg State University. On June 20, 1954, he was united in marriage to Phyllis Wilson at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. He worked for Cripe Bakery and Junge Baking Company as a route salesman.
RUSSELL - W. "Fritz" Waymaster, 87, died on April 12, 2015, at the Russell Regional Hospital. Born on July 30, 1927, in rural Bunker Hill, he was the son of David J. and Anna E. (Steinle) Waymaster. He grew up in the Bunker Hill area and started school there as well. Later he moved and finished his basic education in Russell and graduated from Russell High School in 1945.
HUTCHINSON - Marilyn K. Rivers, 74, died April 12, 2015, at Dillon Living Center. She was born June 19, 1940, in Norton, the daughter of John and Addie Sheets Rivers. She was a 1959 graduate of Great Bend High School. A resident of Hutchinson since 1960, she worked retail for her parents at Rivers Shoe Store.
WOODWARD, Okla. - Carole Willcut, 78-year-old Woodward, Okla., resident, died Saturday, April 11, 2015, in Woodward. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 16, at the Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Gregory Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.
ODIN – Mary M. Wondra, 92, died April 12, at Great Bend Regional Medical Center. Born Oct. 12, 1922, in Odin, she was the daughter of Joseph V. and Frances M. (Tinkel) Jenisch. She graduated from Odin High School. On April 29, 1946, she married William Wondra in Odin. He died Nov. 13, 1996. A lifetime resident of the Odin and Claflin area, she was a homemaker.
William John "Bill" Berchek Jr., 67, passed away on May 2, at his home near Great Bend. Born on July 29, 1947, in Pueblo, Colo. he was the son of William John Berchek Sr. and Evelyn Caroline Gordon. He received his associates degree from Barton County Community College and used it in a wide variety of areas. He worked for 30 years as a Conductor for Union Pacific Railroad as well as in real estate and farming. He was a lifetime resident of Barton County. HOISINGTON - Ivan H. Christy, 88, died April 30, 2015, at Country Place Senior Living, Hoisington. He was born Feb. 9, 1927, at Kansas City, Mo., to Ivan H. and Anna (Tillisch) Christy. He married Mary Louise Kircher Feb. 7, 1949, at Paola. They were later divorced. Ivan then married Gwenola Bagley Ochs March 21, 1970, at Hoisington. She died April 30, 2007.
ELLINWOOD - Bernita K. (Urban) Schloemer-Clair, 83, passed away April 27, 2015, at Ellinwood District Hospital. Born on Dec. 27, 1931, in Rush County, she was the daughter of Wendelin and Rosemary (Leiker) Urban. In 1949, she graduated from La Crosse High School. On June 20, 1954, she married Millard Schloemer in Great Bend. He died Feb. 22, 1982. She later married Ural G. (Jack) Clair in Ellinwood, on Dec. 7, 1990. She worked as a secretary for USD 403 in Bison and as an operator at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in La Crosse.
HOISINGTON - LeRoy George Schartz Jr., 62, died April 22, 2015, at his home in Hoisington. Born May 3, 1952, in Great Bend, he was the son of LeRoy George and Viola Marie (Hermann) Schartz. He married Sharon Holcomb. They were later divorced. He recently moved to Hoisington from Great Bend, where he had worked in both the carpentry and automotive repair trades. He married Joyce Klassen Dec. 6, 1996, at Great Bend. Stan had been a Great Bend resident since 1970, coming from Lawrence.
