He was born Feb. 5, 1930, in rural Barton County, the son of Robert Anthony and Emma (Zecha) Hickel. He married Betty J. Lawrence on May 28, 1951, at Hoisington. A lifetime Claflin resident, he was a retired farmer/stockman and oil producer.

A lifetime resident of the Hoisington area, he worked for Terra Resources as a production superintendent, retiring in 1982.

On June 1, 1950 she married Earl P. Erb in Fayetteville, Ark. He preceded her in death on Sept. 26, 2009.
